IGL shares opened higher at ₹161.9 apiece and hit a 52-week high of 169.8 per share on NSE. Meanwhile, another city gas distribution company, Mahanagar Gas shares jumped 3.1% intraday, and Adani Total Gas shares traded over 8% higher.

The company increased prices by ₹2 per kg in Delhi, effective from Tuesday, May 26, at 6 am onwards, extending a series of price hikes that have taken place in the last two weeks.

With the latest CNG price hike, the total rise in CNG prices in Delhi is ₹5 per kg over the last 15 days. On Saturday, IGL increased its prices by ₹1 per kg and ₹2 per kg revision on May 15.

As per experts, the latest CNG price hike comes amid high volatility in global energy prices, as uncertainty around the US-Iran war and the Strait of Hormuz opening continues. Brent Crude oil prices are already trading above $100 per barrel, which is hurting oil importing country like India.

Besides the CNG price increase, oil marketing companies like BPCL, HPCL and Indian Oil have also increased petrol and diesel prices four times since May 15, 2026. Petrol and diesel saw a cumulative increase of over ₹7 per litre in the last 10 days. As a result, petrol prices in Delhi crossed the ₹100 mark for the first time in the last four years.

Continued surge in petrol, diesel, and CNG prices severely impacts the domestic economy as transport and logistic costs surge and also triggers widespread retail and food inflation and squeezes household budgets.
