Trading holidays in October 2026
Following the Ganesh Chaturthi holiday on Monday, September 14, 2026, the bourses will observe two trading holidays in the month of October.
In October, the exchanges will remain closed on Friday, October 2, on account of Mahatma Gandhi Jayanti and on Tuesday, October 20, for Dussehra.
Remaining stock market holidays in CY26
The NSE and BSE will also observe two holidays in November, with one on Tuesday, November 10, on the occasion of Diwali-Balipratipada, and another one on Tuesday, November 24, for Prakash Gurpurb Sri Guru Nanak Dev.
The exchange noted that while November 8, 2026, will be a trading holiday on account of Diwali Laxmi Pujan, Muhurat Trading will be conducted on that day.
Following the trading holidays in November, the stock markets will observe their final holiday of the 2026 calendar year on Friday, December 25, for Christmas.

Furthermore, the Multi-Commodity Exchange (MCX) will observe partial closure on September 14.
While the domestic commodity exchange will be closed for its morning session from 9 am to 5 pm, it will reopen for its evening session from 5 pm to 11:30/11:55 pm.
Bank holiday on September 14
Banks across major Indian cities, including Belapur, Bengaluru, Bhubaneswar, Chennai, Hyderabad, Mumbai, Nagpur, Panaji and Vijayawada, will observe a holiday on September 14 for “Ganesh Chaturthi/Ganesh Puja/Varasiddhi Vinayaka Vrata/Vinayakar Chathurthi/Hartalika”, as per the RBI’s holiday calendar.
Bank holiday on September 11
Furthermore, bank customers across the country may face disruption in branch services on Friday, September 11, as the United Forum of Bank Unions (UFBU) has gone ahead with its call for a nationwide strike over the demand for a five-day banking week.
The UFBU, an umbrella body of seven bank employee and officer unions, had called a one-day strike on September 11, followed by a three-day strike from September 28 to 30 and an indefinite strike from October 26.
While the banks are not officially closed, branch operations of participating banks could be affected across the country. Several public sector banks have informed stock exchanges about the strike notices served by the UFBU.
