Why did these stocks hit year-high levels?

Automobile and autoparts manufacturers such as Bajaj Auto, TVS Motor Co., and Bosch shares witnessed sustained momentum and buying interest from investors amid the overall healthy auto sector demand and positive Q1 earnings report for the fiscal year 2026-27.

Chennai Petroleum Corp. shares surged to their year-high level right before the company's Q1 earnings announcement after which shares declined over 8% as investors focused on sequential performance and on the rising input costs for the refining company against the backdrop of higher crude oil prices.

Other stocks like Lenskart, Manappuram Finance, Rubicon Research, Diamond Power Infrastructure, E2E Networks, and Shreeji Shipping Global witnessed high interest from investors on Thursday’s market, while the stocks have generated healthy gains so far this calendar year.

Key factors impact stock market today

Oil prices above $96/bbl: Crude oil prices surged to this week’s high on Thursday’s market as global market investors reacted to US President Donald Trump’s recent threat on Iran, 12th round of attacks in Iran, and risk of another supply chain disruption.

Brent crude oil prices surged to this week’s record high level of $96.46 per barrel (bbl) on Thursday, July 23, compared to $94.07 at the previous commodity market close. The crude oil prices have gained 9.4% so far this week as investors focused on the consecutive round of attacks in West Asia.

Rupee weakness: Indian rupee weakening and losing its value against the benchmark US dollar has weighed down the equity market sentiment as global investors sell off riskier emerging market assets in exchange for a safe-haven dollar.

Investing.com data showed that the Indian rupee weakened 0.14% to 96.70 against the US dollar on Thursday, July 23, compared to 96.56 against the greenback at the previous currency market close.

India VIX rises over 2%: India’s equity market volatility index, India VIX, continued to surge on Thursday’s market rising more than 2% as investors remained cautious, monitoring the global market cues and the developments in West Asia.

The VIX or volatility index acts as a “fear gauge” for the market investors, reflecting traders sentiment that are outlining a path of rising uncertainty in the equity markets.
