SUMMARY

Sentiment was weighed by a stronger US dollar and concerns over global interest rates. Since metals are largely priced in dollars, a stronger greenback can make commodities more expensive for overseas buyers and weigh on demand and prices.

Vedanta Group stocks were trading with notable losses in noon deals on Monday, August 31, amid a broader selloff in the market.

Metal stocks traded lower as investors turned cautious after a strong run-up in the sector, triggering profit booking across key counters.

The Nifty Metal index had gained sharply in August, making the pack vulnerable to some consolidation.

Sentiment was also weighed by a stronger US dollar and concerns over global interest rates. Since metals are largely priced in dollars, a stronger greenback can make commodities more expensive for overseas buyers and weigh on demand and prices.

Rising US Treasury yields and expectations around the Federal Reserve’s rate trajectory have added to the cautious tone across global markets, with commodity-linked stocks bearing the brunt of the risk-off mood.

Meanwhile, elevated crude oil prices and renewed geopolitical concerns added to broader market pressure.

The combination of higher input costs, currency moves and global macroeconomic uncertainty kept investors on the sidelines, dragging metal counters lower.

Recent updates

Last week, Vedanta Resources denied media speculation regarding a purported sale of its shareholding in Vedanta Ltd, Vedanta Aluminium, or any other Vedanta group company, propelling the shares to trade higher.

"Vedanta Resources Limited denies the recent media speculation regarding a purported sale of its shareholding in Vedanta Limited, Vedanta Aluminium, or any other Vedanta group company, and confirms that there is currently no such plan," a Vedanta spokesperson said.

The company remains focused on growth and full value unlock - anchored in its landmark demerger into five focused world-class companies, an ambitious growth capex pipeline, a strong deleveraging track record and consistent shareholder returns - as it continues its journey to build "five Vedantas" and transform for good, the spokesperson added.

Vedanta group's demerged entities -- Vedanta Aluminium Metal, Vedanta Power, Vedanta Oil and Gas and Vedanta Iron And Steel -- made their stock market debut on June 15 this year.
