The Indian equity benchmark indices were trading lower in the afternoon amid a volatile session on Wednesday, August 5, after the Reserve Bank of India kept its repo rate unchanged.
The S&P BSE SENSEX had touched an intraday high of the 79,055.38 level, while its day’s low was at 78,292. The NSE’s NIFTY50 touched the session’s peak of 24,677.60 and an intraday low of 24,497.95.
In the afternoon session, as many as 3,409 stocks traded on the NSE on Wednesday. Out of these, 1,934 advanced, and 1,372 declined, while 103 scrips remained unchanged. This indicated that the market breadth was in favour of advances.
A total of 140 stocks hit their 52-week highs, while 30 stocks touched their one-year lows. Besides, 112 stocks hit their upper circuit limits, and 85 touched their lower circuit bands at the time of writing the article.

Among the other major stocks that hit a 52-week high include R R Kabel, Pearl Global Industries, Emcure Pharmaceuticals, Laurus Labs, Welspun Corp and Pidilite Industries.
Shares of PNB Housing Finance, Sona BLW Precision Forgings, Shriram Finance, RBL Bank and Redington were also on the list.
PNB Housing Finance on Tuesday reported a 4.3% year-on-year (YoY) increase in its net standalone profit to ₹557 crore for the first quarter ended June. The housing finance firm had earned a net profit of ₹534 crore in the same quarter of the preceding financial year.
The company's total income for the quarter grew to ₹2,265 crore from ₹2,082 crore in the corresponding quarter of the previous fiscal, it stated.

The broader market was seen outperforming the main equity indices, with both the NIFTY Midcap 100 index and NIFTY Smallcap 100 climbing nearly 1% to their intraday high levels of 63,852.15 and 19,819.90, respectively.
Among the top five gainers on the NIFTY Midcap 100 index were Jubilant Foodworks (5.74%), Godrej Properties (3.68%), Paytm (2.89%), Dixon Technologies (2.72%) and 360 ONE WAM (2.73%).
Meanwhile, Ola Electric Mobility (6.97%), Tenneco Clean Air India (6.08%), Hindustan Copper (5.42%), Devyani International (4.53%), and PNB Housing Finance (4.49%) were the top contributors on the NIFTY Smallcap 100 index.
