NIFTY rises 400 points from day's low, SENSEX ends over 600 points higher as index heavyweights lift the market higher

On Thursday, the 30-share BSE SENSEX closed in green, up by 0.93% to settle at 73,663.72. NSE NIFTY 50 ended at 22,403.85, up by 0.92%. NSE NIFTY 50 index ended the trading session on a positive led by last 30 minute buying. The last hour heavy lifting was largely led by index heavyweights like HDFC Bank, Reliance, Infosys, M&M. The NIFTY 50 index closed above its 20-DMA for the first time since May 07. India VIX declined by 1.73% and closed at 19.92.

Index Movers

Now coming to the NIFTY 50 index pullers and draggers, HDFC Bank (+36.27 pts), Infosys (+25.07 pts), Bharti Airtel (+20.13 pts), M&M (+19.9 pts) and Reliance (+14.16 pts) were the pullers of the day, which helped Nifty recover from the day’s low. While the draggers were, Maruti Suzuki (-8.24 pts), SBI (-6.97 pts), Tata Motors (-3.24 pts), Power Grid (-2.64 pts), and Dr Reddy's Lab (-1.27 pts).

Broader indices

The broader markets ended the session in green and continued its rally. Nifty Midcap 100 ended higher by 0.88%, while the Nifty Smallcap 100 climbed by 0.84% on Thursday. Market breadth was strong today as 1,126 stocks advanced and 875 stocks declined on NSE.

Sectoral Indices

Among sectors, barring Nifty PSU Bank (-0.88%), all other major sectoral indices ended in green. The top three sectoral performers were NIFTY Consumer Durables (+1.72%), NIFTY IT (+1.66%) and Nifty Realty (+1.63%).

In the Asian equity markets, the indices closed positively. The Hang Seng index added 1.59%, while the Shanghai market ended the session with a marginal gain of 0.08%.

Dow Jones Futures were seen trading at 40,058 levels flat up by 18 points or 0.05%.
