Stock market today: The equity market indices NIFTY50 and SENSEX ended lower after their trading session on Monday, September 7, as investors focused on elevated crude oil prices, subdued tech sector bias and mixed cues from the Asian markets.

The sentiment was further weakened due to the latest attacks between the United States and Iran, with American forces carrying out three military strikes on Iranian crude oil carriers in response to the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) launching missiles towards US Navy warships.

NSE data showed that the NIFTY50 index ended 0.50% or 118.55 points lower at 23,779.15 points after Monday’s trading session, in comparison to 23,897.70 points at the previous equity market close.

Meanwhile, the BSE SENSEX index closed 0.50% or 382.62 points lower at 76,132.81 points after the trading session on September 7, compared to 76,515.43 points at the previous stock market close, according to the exchange data.

Investors are expected to continue monitoring crude oil prices and the geopolitical developments in West Asia, as any further escalation can further impact the hopes of any potential peace deal in the region.

NIFTY50 top gainers & losers today

Stocks like Infosys, SBI Life Insurance, HDFC Life Insurance, Jio Financial, Tech Mahindra, Wipro, Ultratech Cement, and JSW Steel were among the top gainers on the NIFTY50 index as of the stock market close on Monday.

Infosys lost 3.7%, SBI Life Insurance lost 2.4%, HDFC Life Insurance lost 2.4%, Jio Financial lost 2.1%, Tech Mahindra lost 2%, Wipro lost 2%, Ultratech Cement lost 2%, and JSW Steel declined 1.7% as of the market close on September 7.

Other stocks like Apollo Hospitals, Larsen & Toubro, Coal India, Bharti Airtel, Max Healthcare, Cipla, and Eicher Motors are among the top gainers as of the stock market close on Monday.

Apollo Hospitals gained 1.2%, Larsen & Toubro gained 0.8%, Coal India gained 0.8%, Bharti Airtel gained 0.7%, Max Healthcare gained 0.7%, Cipla gained 0.7%, and Eicher Motors gained 0.5%.

Out of the 50 stocks listed on NIFTY50, 37 stocks ended in the negative zone, while the remaining 13 stocks ended in the green zone after the trading session on Monday, September 7, 2026.
