Top gainers and losers on October 4: M&M was the top loser as NIFTY50 fell over 0.9% today

Top Gainers and Losers: Infosys, ONGC and HDFC Life Insurance drag as NIFTY trades closer to 25,000 mark

Benchmark indices Sensex and Nifty closed in the red on Friday, October 4, amid rising geopolitical tensions in the Middle East. The disturbances are likely to disrupt crude supplies in the key oil-producing region, which can impact net importers such as India.

NIFTY50 closed at 25,014, down by 235 points, or 0.93%, after touching an intraday low of 24,966 earlier in the day. BSE SENSEX ended the session at 81,688, down by 808 points or 0.98% after recording a low of 81,532.

Sectoral indices Nifty IT and Nifty PSU Bank closed higher by 0.36% and 0.54%, respectively. In contrast, the Nifty Media and Nifty Realty indices closed lower by 2.61% and 1.64% respectively.

Out of the 50 Nifty constituents, 37 closed in the red, led by a sell-off in Mahindra & Mahindra, Bajaj Finance, and Asian Paints.

Infosys and ONGC emerge as lead gainers

Infosys shares gained the most among benchmark Nifty constituents. The IT services company’s shares closed at ₹1,922 apiece, up by 1.51%. The stock gained over 3% to hit an intraday high at ₹1954.1 apiece during the session.
State-owned company, Oil & Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) shares traded northward by nearly 3% to hit an intraday high of ₹299.7 apiece. The stock closed 1.18% higher at ₹295.5 apiece on the NSE.

Shares of HDFC Life Insurance Company gained over 1% to hit an intraday high of ₹713.5 apiece on the NSE. The stock settled in the green at ₹709.3 apiece.

Tata Group stock Tata Motors gained over 2% to hit an intraday high of ₹949.2 apiece. It closed 0.85% higher at ₹933.55 apiece on the NSE.
Shares of Wipro gained over 2% to trade at an intraday high of ₹541.95 apiece before closing flat at ₹533.6, up by 0.65%.

Among other Nifty constituents, Axis Bank, Tech Mahindra and Titan shares closed higher by up to 0.62% on October 4.

Mahindra & Mahindra and Bajaj Finance top losers

Mahindra & Mahindra stock declined the most among NIFTY50 constituents. The stock dipped over 3.5% to hit an intraday low of ₹3,009.5 apiece. The stock closed at ₹3,019 apiece, down by 3.54%.
Shares of Bajaj group company Bajaj Finance fell more than 3% to hit an intraday low of ₹7,155 per share. The stock settled lower, down by 2.86% at ₹7,221 apiece.
Shares of Asian Paints closed lower by 2.4% at ₹3,073.85 apiece, and shares of Nestle India closed at ₹2,612.6 apiece, down by 2.33%.
Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd (BPCL) stock also closed in the red at ₹340.8 apiece, down 2.31%.

Shares of UltraTech Cement, Hero Motocorp, and Britannia Industries also emerged as top losers among Nifty constituents, declining up to 2.13%.
