Top gainers and losers on July 17: Tech Mahindra falls 3%, Tata Consumer, Tata Steel surge 2%; check list

SUMMARY

The Indian benchmark indices, SENSEX and NIFTY50, closed in the negative territory on Thursday, July 17, following selling in IT shares as investors remained in a wait-and-watch mode ahead of the outcome of the US-India trade talks.

The SENSEX dropped 375.24 points or 0.45% to settle at 82,259.24. Similarly, NIFTY closed lower by 100.60 points or 0.40% to 25,111.45.

NIFTY50 top gainers and losers

The 50-share NIFTY index was dragged down by Tech Mahindra, which closed 2.72% lower, after its revenue in constant currency (CC) terms dipped 1.4% sequentially and 1% YoY.

It was followed by IndusInd Bank (-1.90%), Infosys (-1.67%), Wipro (-1.54) and SBI Life Insurance Company (-1.46%), which were among the top laggards of the day.

On the other hand, the top gainers pack was led by Tata Consumer Products, which surged 2.01%. Tata Steel (1.68%), Hindalco Industries (0.79%), Mahindra & Mahindra (0.61%) and Trent (0.59%) trailed behind TCS.

NIFTY Midcap 100 top gainers and losers

NSE’s midcap gauge, the NIFTY Midcap 100, fell as much as 101.55 points, or 0.17%, to 59,519.10 on Thursday. The index was weighed down by Bharat Dynamics, which closed 3.50% lower. It was followed by Waaree Energies (-2.51%), BSE Ltd (-2.06%), Max Financial Services (1.99%) and Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders (1.99%), which were among the top losers.

On the flipside, shares of Sona BLW Precision Forgings soared 6.5%. The top gainers included Prestige Estates Projects (3.86%), UPL (3.15%), HDFC Asset Management Company (2.85%) and Godrej Properties (2.27%).

NIFTY Smallcap 100 top gainers and losers

The NIFTY Smallcap 100 settled at 19,117.30, down 22.75 points or 0.12% on July 17. It was pulled down by selling in Newgen Software Technologies (-6.04%), Swan Energy (-2.97%), Multi Commodity Exchange Ltd (-1.68%), BEML Ltd (-1.52%) and ATUL Ltd (-1.48%).

On the contrary, Nuvama Wealth Management (4.09%), Mahanagar Gas (2.99%), Welspun Corp (2.41%), Trident (1.82%) and Piramal Enterprises (1.76%), were among the top gainers.
