Top gainers and losers, Aug 20: Eternal, Shriram Finance surge 2%, Tata Consumer Products falls 1%; check list

Top gainers and losers: The Indian benchmark indices, SENSEX and NIFTY50, closed in positive territory on Thursday, August 20, snapping a seven-day losing streak, amid positive global cues and buying in media, realty and capital market stocks.

Furthermore, investor sentiment improved amid foreign fund inflow, a decline in US bond yields, an appreciation in the rupee, and value buying.

On Wednesday, the foreign institutional investors (FIIs) purchased shares worth ₹407.99 crore, while the domestic institutional investors (DIIs) bought equities worth ₹3,973.72 crore on a net basis, according to exchange data.

The SENSEX rallied as much as 0.9% to hit an intraday high of 77,611.11. Meanwhile, the NIFTY50 surged as much as 0.91% to touch the session’s peak of 24,265.15.

On August 20, the 30-share BSE SENSEX ended 628.04 points, or 0.82%, higher at 77,537.72, while the 50-share NSE NIFTY closed at 24,231.85, marking a 153.55-point, or 0.64%, increase.

NIFTY50 top gainers and losers

The top gainers in the NIFTY50 included Eternal (2.48%), Shriram Finance (2.01%), Kotak Mahindra Bank (1.82%), ITC (1.72%) and Bajaj Finance (1.37%).

On the other hand, shares of Tata Consumer Products closed in the red, down 1.10%. Hindalco Industries (-0.88%), InterGlobe Aviation (-0.54%), Nestle India (-0.48%) and HCL Technologies (-0.48%) were also among the day’s top losers.

NIFTY Midcap 100 top gainers and losers

NSE’s midcap gauge, the NIFTY Midcap 100, closed at 60,739.20, reflecting a 0.41% or 262.80-point jump.

The gains were led by buying in the Multi-Commodity Exchange of India (MCX) (5.15%). The other top winners included Glenmark Pharmaceuticals (3.85%), Coforge (3.80%), Premier Energies (3.79%) and SBI Cards and Payment Services (3.75%).

On the flip side, the top laggards were Bharat Dynamics (-2.37%), GMR Airport (-2.04%), Coromandel International (-2.02%), BSE (-1.82%) and Housing & Urban Development Corporation (-1.76%).

Shares of BSE declined after a Bloomberg report, citing people familiar with the matter, claimed that NSE may allow its equity shares to trade on its own platform after debuting on BSE.

Under the proposal, NSE scrip could trade in the "permitted to trade" framework, which allows securities to trade on the National Stock Exchange without being formally listed.

NIFTY Smallcap 100 top gainers and losers

The NIFTY Smallcap 100 index advanced by 134.30 points or 0.68% to end at 19,841.45.

The gains were led by Netweb Technologies India, which closed 6.83% higher. It was followed by Brigade Enterprises (6.81%), Meesho (6.65%), Cohance Lifesciences (6.34%), and HBL Engineering (6.12%), which were among the other top gainers.

The stock of Brigade Enterprises surged after the company signed an agreement with US-based healthcare technology firm HealthEdge. The real estate major, in a regulatory filing, said the agreement was for a super built-up area of approximately 1.62 lakh sq. ft. across 11 floors of Brigade’s first IT office building, Brigade Square, in Thiruvananthapuram.

On the contrary, the top losers included Himadri Speciality Chemical (-6.31%), Aster DM Quality Care (-4.29%), Aegis Logistics (-2.47%), CESC Ltd (-1.99%) and Data Patterns (-1.94%).
