Top gainers and losers, Aug 18: Tata Motors PV, Asian Paints fall 2%; Axis Bank jumps over 1%

Top gainers and losers: The Indian benchmark indices, SENSEX and NIFTY50, closed in negative territory on Tuesday, August 18, amid a sell-off in information technology (IT) and realty stocks.

Furthermore, investor sentiment soured as global crude oil prices surged to more than a two-week high, trading above $91 per barrel (bbl), amid US President Donald Trump’s latest threat to bomb Oman, amid an escalating West Asia conflict. With no signs of a potential peace agreement or a ceasefire between Iran and the United States, along with the end of the 60-day negotiation timeline on Monday, uncertainties about how long it will take to end the conflict grow. The SENSEX declined as much as 0.64% to touch an intraday low of 77,234.36. Meanwhile, the NIFTY50 fell as much as 0.55% to reach the session’s low of 24,154.90.

On August 18, the SENSEX dropped by 492.70 points or 0.63% to end at 77,235.46. Similarly, the NIFTY50 closed lower by 132.75 points or 0.55% at 24,154.90.

NIFTY50 top gainers and losers

The 50-share NIFTY index was dragged down by selling in the shares of Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles (TMPV), which closed 2.24% lower.

It was followed by Asian Paints (-2.20%), Infosys (-2.18%), Wipro (-2.11%) and HCL Technologies (-2.04%), which were among the top losers of the day.

On the other hand, the top gainers included Axis Bank (1.28%), Max Healthcare Institute (1.07%), Mahindra & Mahindra (M&M) (0.92%), Grasim Industries (0.87%) and Power Grid Corporation of India (0.70%).

NIFTY Midcap 100 top gainers and losers

NSE’s midcap gauge, the NIFTY Midcap 100, declined by 277.60 points, or 0.43%, to 63,539.40 on Tuesday.

The top laggards were SBI Cards and Payment Services (-4.17%), Oberoi Realty (-3.78%), Colgate Palmolive (-3.11%), MphasiS (-3.11%) and Godrej Properties (-2.76%).

On the flip side, Tube Investments of India (7.94%), MCX (3.64%), Lenskart Solutions (3.47%), L&T Finance (3.21%) and Vodafone Idea (2.99%) were among the top winners.

Shares of Lenskart Solutions hit a 52-week high on August 18, after the eyewear firm incorporated a step-down subsidiary.

In a regulatory filing, Lenskart said its step-down subsidiary, Wenzhou Framekart Trade Co., Ltd, was incorporated on August 14, 2026, and received its Certificate of Incorporation on August 17, 2026.

NIFTY Smallcap 100 top gainers and losers

The NIFTY Smallcap 100 ended flat with a negative bias at 19,808.85, marking a 0.40-point fall.

Inox Wind (-4.07%), PG Electroplast (-2.77%), Triveni Turbine (-2.66%), Force Motor (2.18%) and Wockhardt Pharma (-2.10%) were among the top losers in the index.

On the contrary, shares of Jyoti CNC Automation ended 9.56% higher. It traded higher during the trading session, along with other electronics manufacturing services (EMS) stocks, as the government cleared 31 fresh proposals under the electronics components manufacturing scheme (ECMS), entailing investments of ₹7,877 crore, S Krishnan, the secretary in the IT ministry, said on Monday.

The other top gainers included Aegis Logistics (6.51%), Data Patterns (4.67%), IFCI Ltd (3.26%) and City Union Bank (3.25%).
