SENSEX loses 330 pts, NIFTY50 snaps 4-day win streak to end lower amid mixed global cues

Indian stock market indices, NIFTY50 and BSE SENSEX ended lower after their trading session on Tuesday, September 22, as index heavyweight stocks extended the losses with investors focused on mixed global market cues.

NIFTY50 snapped its four-day winning streak to end lower after Tuesday’s market, while SENSEX resumed its downward trend after a one-day break in between at the previous market close.

NSE data showed that the NIFTY50 index closed 0.36% lower at 23,329 points after Tuesday’s market session, in comparison to 23,414.30 points at the previous equity market close.

Meanwhile, the SENSEX ended 0.44% lower at 74,529.08 points after the trading session on Sept. 22, in contrast to 74,858.99 points at the previous stock market close, according to BSE data.

Heavyweight stocks like Tata Consumer Products, Nestle India, Bajaj Finance, Bajaj Finserv, Sun Pharma, Grasim Industries were leading the pack of losers as of the market close on Sept. 22.

Investors were also focused on the highly volatile crude oil prices hovering between the range of $102-98 per barrel (bbl) on Tuesday’s market as reports suggest that the United Kingdom has agreed to provide further military support to Saudi Arabia amid the Iran-backed Houthi attacks in West Asia.

As per a recent Al Jazeera report, China called it ‘illegal’ for US sanctions on Iranian airlines a day after Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent threatened potential measures on the country. Latest report also showed taht the artillery shelling and clashed continue between Yemeni government and Houthis in the region.

Despite the developments in the region, Oman brokers continue their efforts to mediate a potential peace agreement between the United States and Iran.

The elevated US Treasury yields also kept the investors on the edge, with the benchmark 10-year Treasury note yield trading around 4.929% amid the global financial tightening with interest hikes around global central banks.

Equity investors were also exercising selling pressure, powering capital rotation out of high-growth sectors like IT, banking and industrials. Nifty IT, Nifty Cement, Nifty Bank, Nifty PSU Bank, among others, were among the sectoral laggards.

During the closing auction session, the benchmark indices extended their losses to end even lower on Tuesday, September 22, 2026.

Stocks like Tata Consumer Products lost 1.6%, Nestle India lost 1.5%, Bajaj Finance lost 1.2%, Bajaj Finserv lost 1.4%, Sun Pharma lost 1.2%, and Grasim Industries lost 1.2%, and were among the top laggards.

While others like Coal India up 3.2%, Eternal up 1.8%, IndiGo up 1.8%, Titan up 1.1%, and Dr Reddy’s up 1% were among the gainers.

Out of the 50 stocks listed on NIFTY50, 15 stocks ended in the positive territory, while the remaining 35 stocks ended in the red zone after the trading session on Tuesday.
