Muhurat Trading 2025: SENSEX rises 235 points, NIFTY50 opens at 25,920 level; Infosys, Adani Ports lead gains

The Indian stock market opened on a positive note during the special Muhurat trading session on Tuesday, October 21.

At 1:47 PM, the S&P BSE SENSEX rose 235.98 points, or 0.28%, to the 84,599.35 level, while NSE’s NIFTY50 was at the 25,920.80 level, gaining 77.65 points, or 0.3%.

The broader market was also seen trading higher during the session, with both Nifty Midcap 100 and Nifty Smallcap 100 advancing 0.42% and 0.71%, respectively.

All sectoral indices traded in the green, with Nifty Media (up 0.93%), Nifty IT (0.56%), and Nifty Auto (0.45%) leading the gains.

According to exchange data, on Monday, the foreign institutional investors (FIIs) bought equities worth ₹790.45 crore on a net basis, while the domestic institutional investors (DIIs) purchased ₹2,485.46 crore worth of equities.

Most of the Asian markets were trading higher on expectations of easing trade tensions between the US and China. Hong Kong's Hang Seng advanced 0.86%, Singapore's Straits Times gained 1.29%, and Japan's Nikkei rose 0.15%.

Overnight, US stocks surged on Monday, lifted by gains in Apple shares over demand for its latest iPhone design. It was the strongest force lifting the S&P 500 and set its own record high.

The S&P 500 climbed 1.1% and pulled within 0.3% of its all-time high set earlier this month. The Dow Jones Industrial Average jumped 515 points, or 1.1%, and the Nasdaq Composite gained 1.4%.

Market statistics

As many as 2,720 stocks traded on the NSE during the early session, among which 2,244 were trading in the green, 381 were trading in the red, and 95 shares remained unchanged.

This indicates that the market's breadth was favourable to advances.

Meanwhile, 95 stocks hit their one-year highs in the early trade, while 22 stocks touched their 52-week lows.

Further, 53 stocks also hit their lower circuits, while 12 stocks hit their upper circuits.

India VIX, the volatility gauge, was trading up by 1.76% at 11.56 levels.

Top gainers and losers
As many as 43 stocks advanced in the early session on the NIFTY50 index, while 7 declined.

Infosys was the most contributing stock, climbing 1.10%, followed by Adani Ports (0.82%), Mahindra & Mahindra (0.69%), Tech Mahindra (0.63%) and JSW Steel (0.63%).  

On the other hand, Kotak Mahindra Bank (-0.84%), ICICI Bank (-0.54%), Shriram Finance (-0.31%), ONGC (-0.24%) and Bharti Airtel (-0.21%) were the top losers on the 50-share index.
