The broader market was trading higher for the fifth consecutive session on Friday, May 16, while the main equity benchmark indices remained under pressure.
During the intraday period, Nifty Midcap 100 was trading 1.11% higher at 57,157.85 levels, while the Nifty Smallcap 100 index was seen at 17,563.30 level, surging 1.88%.
Defence and railway-related stocks were the major contributors on both the gauges.
In the last month, the Nifty Midcap 100 index has gained 9%, and the Nifty Smallcap 100 gauge has increased over 7.2%.
After opening at the 17,336.05 level, the NIFTY Smallcap 100 index touched a high of the 17,558.70 level and a low of the 17,259.55 level during the intraday period on Friday.
IFCI Limited was the biggest gainer on the index, surging 14.7% after the company’s net profit for Q4 FY25 jumped 44.4% to ₹227.28 crore from ₹157.32 crore in the same quarter last fiscal year.
Titagarh Rail Systems (13.12%), RITES Limited (11.59%), Garden Reach Shipbuilders & Engineers (11.47%), Jupiter Waggon (8.24%) and Anant Raj (7.83%) were the top contributors in the sector.

Crompton Greaves Consumer Electricals Ltd on Thursday reported an increase of 28.7% in its consolidated net profit to ₹171.74 crore in the March quarter of FY25 as against ₹133.43 crore YoY. Its revenue from operations was up 5.08% to ₹2,060.64 crore in the March quarter of FY25. It was at ₹1,961 crore in the year-ago period.
According to reports, Railtel reported a rise of 46.3% in its net profit to ₹113.4 crore for the March 2025 quarter (Q4 FY25), compared to ₹77.53 crore logged in the corresponding period last year.
Meanwhile, Neuland Laboratories (-5.78%), Godfrey Phillips India (-5%), NCC Limited (-2.59%), Triveni Turbine (-0.164%) and Piramal Pharma (-1.63%) were the most losing stocks on the index.
After opening at the 56,760.25 level on Friday, the NIFTY Midcap 100 index touched a high of the 57,113.35 level and a low of 56,549.20 during the intraday period.
Cochin Shipyard was the biggest contributor on the index, soaring 11.69%. Shares of the company were trading higher after it reported a 10.9% year-on-year (YoY) consolidated net profit of ₹287.18 crore for the March quarter. The company reported a profit of ₹258.89 crore in the year-ago period.
Its revenue from operations came in at ₹1,757.65 crore, up 36.67% against ₹1,286.04 crore logged in the year-ago period.
RVNL (8.84%), Mazagon Dock (8.7%), Premier Energies (8.1%), SJVN Limited (6.37%) and Bharat Electronics (4.28%) were the other top gainers on the index.

Among others, NHPC (4.26%), HUDCO (4.21%), Apollo Tyres (4.13%), IREDA (3.96%) and Tube Investments of India (3.94%) also added to the indices’ rally.
However, Patanjali (-2.16%), KPIT Technologies (-1.79%), Jubilant Foodworks (-1.56%), L&T Finance (-1.48%) and Aurobindo Pharma (-1.46%) were among the losing stocks on the Nifty Midcap 100 index.
