The equity benchmark indices recovered from their day’s low but settled with cuts on Friday, June 13, following their Asian peers as Israel attacked Iran and oil prices surged.

At close, the S&P BSE SENSEX ended at the 81,118.60 level, tumbling 573.38 points, or 0.70%, while the NSE's NIFTY50 index declined 169.60 points, or 0.68%, to settle at the 24,718.60 level.

During the intraday period, NIFTY50 and SENSEX had touched a low of 24,473 and 80,354.59 levels, respectively.

Investors were also nervous following the foreign investors pulling out of the Indian equity market.

According to exchange data, on Thursday, the foreign institutional investors (FIIs) sold equities worth ₹3,831.42 crore on a net basis, while the domestic institutional investors (DIIs) purchased ₹9,393.85 crore worth of equities.

On the global front, the US market closed higher on Thursday after another encouraging update on inflation across the country.

The S&P 500 climbed 0.38% to end the session at 6,045.26 points. The Nasdaq gained 0.24% to 19,662.49 points, while the Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 0.24% to 42,967.62 points.

However, all the Asian markets slipped into the red on Friday morning as oil prices surged following the geopolitical tension between Iran and Israel.

Market statistics

As many as 2,964 stocks traded on the NSE on Friday. Out of this, 1,059 advanced and 1,824 advanced, while 81 scrips remained unchanged.

This, however, indicates that the market breadth favoured negatives.

A total of 43 stocks hit their 52-week highs, while 33 stocks touched their one-year lows. Besides, 54 stocks hit their upper circuit limits, and 80 touched their lower circuit bands on Tuesday.

NSE-listed firms' market capitalisation stood at ₹444.93 lakh crore at the end of the session.

The volatility index India VIX rose 7.59% to 15.08 levels.

Top gainers and losers
On the NIFTY50 index, 38 stocks declined while 11 advanced on Friday.

Adani Ports was the top laggard, sliding 2.27%, followed by ITC (-1.67%), State Bank of India (-1.57%), Hindalco (-1.49%) and Adani Enterprises (-1.43%).

Meanwhile, Bharat Electronics (2%), ONGC (1.28%), Tech Mahindra (0.83%), Tata Consultancy Services (0.38%) and Wipro (0.38%) were the top gainers on the 50-share index.
