The Indian equity benchmarks were trading with a negative bias in afternoon trading on Tuesday, July 14, as investor sentiment remained cautious tracking a surge in crude prices after US Central Command (CENTCOM) said that its forces will resume blockading maritime traffic entering and exiting Iranian ports on July 14.

The SENSEX fell as much as 615 points and NIFTY50 index touched an intraday low of 24,038 dragged down by losses in index heavyweights like HDFC Bank, Larsen & Toubro, State Bank of India, HCL Technologies, Mahindra & Mahindra and Kotak Mahindra Bank.

As of 2:02 pm, the SENSEX was down 499 points at 77,117 and NIFTY50 index dropped 152 points to 24,060.

Here are stocks witnessing heavier than usual trading activity:
Nuvoco Vistas: Shares of the cement maker surged as much as 13% to hit an intraday high of ₹358.80 after the company said that its cement capacity in the first quarter of current financial year rose from 27 million metric tonnes per annum (MMTPA) to 35 MMTPA.

Trading volume on the National Stock Exchange (NSE) in the stock jumped by 60.5 times to 1.83 crore shares compared with an average volume of 3.02 lakh shares.

On the BSE, as many as 10.09 lakh shares changed hands compared with an average of 15,000 shares traded daily in the past two weeks.

Biocon: Shares of the country's leading biosimilar maker soared as much as 8.04% to hit a 52-week high of ₹444 following news reports that its shares changed hands in a block deal during the pre-open session on Tuesday.

Trading volume on the NSE surged by eight times to 3.77 crore shares compared with an average volume of 47 lakh shares.

On the BSE, 4.79 crore shares changed hands compared with an average of 2.02 lakh shares traded daily in the past two weeks.

CarTrade Tech: Shares of the operator of online auto classifieds platform surged as much as 10% to hit an intraday high of ₹3,082 amid spike in trading activity.

Trading volume jumped by 6.2 times on the NSE to 31.71 lakh shares compared with an average volume of 5.09 lakh shares.

On the BSE, as many as 2.88 lakh shares changed hands compared with an average of 21,000 shares traded daily in the past two weeks.

IDBI Bank: Shares the Mumbai-based lender advanced as much as 5.12% to hit an intraday high of ₹88.40 amid spike in trading activity.

Trading volume jumped by 5.9 times to 4.55 crore shares compared with an average volume of 77 lakh shares.

On the BSE, a total of 30.34 lakh shares changed hands compared with an average of 8.93 lakh shares traded daily in the past two weeks.

Container Corporation of India: Container Corporation of India shares advanced as much as 6% to touch an intraday high of ₹492 after the company said that its total volumes handled at during the first quarter rose by 8.89% to 14.04 lakh TEUs.

Trading volume on NSE jumped by 5.3 times to 94.84 lakh shares compared with an average volume of 18 lakh shares.

On the BSE, as many as 5.93 lakh shares change hands compared with an average of 1.14 lakh shares traded daily in the past two weeks.
