HFCL, Cyient, Titagarh Rail, NCC shares gain up to 13% after exiting derivatives segment

Shares of HFCL, Cyient, Titagarh Rail Systems and NCC rose up to 13% on Wednesday, December 31, after these stocks were excluded from the derivatives segment with the start of January futures and option (F&O) series. On the other hand, Swiggy, Waaree Energies and Premier Energies were added to the derivatives segment.

Shares of telecom equipment maker HFCL rose as much as 13% to hit an intraday high of ₹71.59 amid higher than usual trading volumes. Trading volume in HFCL shares spiked by nearly two times to 12.45 crore shares on the NSE compared with an average trading volume of 7.22 crore shares.

On the BSE, as many as 1.52 crore shares changed hands compared with an average of 39.45 lakh shares traded daily in the past two weeks.

Shares in Cyient rose as much as 3.3% to hit an intraday high of ₹1,129, NCC climbed as much as 6% to hit an intraday high of ₹164 and Titagarh Rail Systems shares jumped as much as 2.9% to hit an intraday high of ₹904, data from the NSE showed.

Meanwhile, shares of Swiggy declined 1%, Waaree Energies rose 0.62% and Premier Energies rose 0.25% as they became part of F&O shares.

The exchange generally removes shares from the F&O segment on account of low liquidity or trading volumes, market experts said.

Apart from the changes to the stocks being added or removed from the January series, the lot sizes of NIFTY and Bank NIFTY contracts also came into effect from today. Starting today, the lot size of NIFTY50 contracts has been reduced to 65 from 75 and Bank NIFTY lot size has been reduced to 30 from 35.

The NSE also added Union Bank of India and YES Bank to the NIFTY Bank index taking the total constituents to 14 from its earlier constituent size of 12.

Shares of Union Bank of India rose 1.75% and YES Bank shares advanced 1.31%.
