The Indian equity benchmarks were trading with a negative bias in afternoon deals ahead of monthly expiry of August NIFTY50 and stocks futures and option contracts. The SENSEX fell as much as 243 points and NIFTY50 index touched an intraday low of 24,115 dragged down by losses in index heavyweights like HDFC Bank, Reliance Industries, Infosys, HCL Technologies, Tata Steel, NTPC and Axis Bank.

As of 1:52 pm, the SENSEX was down 187 points at 77,182 and NIFTY50 index declined 70 points to 14,149.

Here are shares witnessing heavier than usual trading activity:
The Fertilisers And Chemicals Travancore (FACT): Shares of the country's leading fertiliser maker rose as much as 17.3% to hit an intraday high of ₹920, mirroring gains in other fertiliser shares after Russia assured India of uninterrupted supply of energy and fertilisers amid disruption caused by the West Asia crisis, as External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar met President Vladimir Putin in Moscow and held talks with his key interlocutors.

Trading volume in FACT shares jumped by 192 times to 2.83 crore shares compared with an average volume of 1.47 lakh shares on the National Stock Exchange (NSE).

Rashtriya Chemicals and Fertilizers: Shares of the fertiliser maker jumped as much as 7.89% to hit an intraday high of ₹128 amid spike in trading activity.

As many as 8.26 lakh shares changed hands on the BSE compared with an average of 62,000 shares traded daily in the past two weeks.

Trading volume on the NSE jumped by 17 times to 1.51 crore shares compared with an average volume of 9.13 lakh shares.

Paradeep Phosphates: Shares of the fertiliser maker advanced as much as 15% to hit an intraday high of ₹160 as trading volumes spiked.

Trading volume on the NSE jumped by 13.7 times to 3.28 crore shares compared with an average volume of 24.02 lakh shares.

As many as 22.86 lakh shares changed hands on the BSE compared with an average of 2.86 lakh shares traded daily in the past two weeks.

Godrej Agrovet: Shares of the animal feed maker jumped as much as 8.7% to hit an intraday high of ₹625 amid spike in volumes.

A total of 1.53 lakh shares changed hands on the BSE compared with a two-week average of 26,000 shares.

On the NSE, trading volume jumped by 9.8 times to 18.25 lakh shares compared with an average of 1.86 lakh shares.

Chalet Hotels: Shares of the hotels and resort operator rose as much as 4% to hit an intraday high of ₹904.65 after the company informed exchanges that it has fixed Friday, September 11, 2026, as the Record Date for ascertaining the shareholders eligible for payment of Final Dividend for the Financial Year 2025-26.

Trading volume in the stock jumped by 7.5 times on the NSE to 8.72 lakh shares compared with an average volume of 1.16 lakh shares.

As many as 2.28 lakh shares changed hands on the BSE compared with an average of 26,000 shares traded daily in the past two weeks.
