The Indian equity benchmarks were trading sharply lower in noon deals mirroring losses in global markets as investor sentiment remained cautious as escalating tensions between United States and Iran sent crude oil prices soaring over $96 per barrel for first time in over a month.

Markets across world were trading sharply lower after the US military said it carried out a wave of strikes against Iranian military targets, with Iranian media reporting explosions in Asaluyeh, Jiroft, Bandar Abbas, Qeshm Island, Konarak, Chabahar, Jask, Sirik and Lavan.

In response, Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) claimed an attack on a US military barracks at Jordan’s Camp Titin, and Iran’s army said it targeted US forces stationed at Bahrain’s Sheikh Isa airbase, according to a report by Al Jazeera.

As of 12:22 pm, the SENSEX was down 653 points at 76,292 and NIFTY50 index declined 217 points to 23,838.

Here are shares witnessing heavier than usual trading volumes:
Century Enka: Shares of the Aditya Birla Group's textile maker rose as much as 14.83%, in an otherwise weak session, to hit an intraday high of ₹624.80 amid spike in trading activity.

Trading volume on the National Stock Exchange (NSE) jumped by 270 times to 64.54 lakh shares compared with an average volume of 23,929 shares.

As many as 5.09 lakh shares changed hands on the BSE compared with an average of 1,736 shares traded daily in the past two weeks.

Antelopus Selan Energy: Shares of the Gurugram-headquartered oil exploration advanced as much as 16% to an intraday high of ₹918.90 after the company post market hours on Monday said that it was awarded an exploration contracts at onshore fields in the Krishna Godavari (KG) basin and Cambay Basin.

Trading volume in the stock jumped by 117 times to 60.67 lakh shares compared with an average volume of 52,010 shares.

A total of 3.41 lakh shares changed hands on the BSE compared with an two-week average of 5,203 shares.

Nicco Parks and Resorts: Shares of the amusement park operator dropped as much as 6% to hit an intraday low of ₹77.30 amid spike in volumes.

Trading volume on the NSE jumped by 96 times to 3.68 lakh shares compared with an average volume of 3,856 shares.

EMS: Shares of the waste management company surged 10% to an intraday high of ₹409.50 after the company informed exchanges that emerged as lowest (L1) bidder for sewerage work for the government of Rajasthan. The estimated value of the order ₹219 crore.

Trading volume on the NSE advanced by 47 times to 67.32 lakh shares compared with an average volume of 1.43 lakh shares.

A total of 5.78 lakh shares were traded on the BSE compared with average of 42,000 traded daily in the past two weeks.

Windlas Biotech: Shares of the drugmaker advanced 9% to an intraday high of ₹1,098 amid spike in volumes.

Trading volume on the NSE jumped by 18 times to 8.74 lakh shares compared with an average volume of 48,868 shares.
