Central Bank of India shares fall 6% as OFS opens for institutional investors; check key details

Central Bank of India share price: Shares of Central Bank of India declined as much as 6.5% to hit an intraday low of ₹31.72 apiece on the National Stock Exchange (NSE) on Friday, May 22, as the government’s 4% stake sale opened for subscription by institutional investors.

At around 11:59 AM, the stock was trading 6.37% lower at ₹31.76 per equity share.

The scrip has lost 6% in the past week and 13% over the month. On a year-to-date basis, it has fallen 15%.

While the share hit a 52-week high of ₹41.20 per unit on June 20, 20025, it touched a year’s low of ₹31.30 on March 30, 2025.

The government's 4% stake sale in the Central Bank of India at ₹31 per share opened for subscription by institutional investors on Friday.

The Offer For Sale (OFS) of Central Bank of India also includes a greenshoe option to sell an additional 4% stake. Retail investors will be able to bid in the share sale offer on Monday, May 25.

The floor price of ₹31 a share is 8.58% lower than the stock's Thursday closing price of ₹33.92 on the NSE.

By selling an 8% stake in the PSU bank, the government will raise ₹2,456 crore.

The OFS will help the government inch towards meeting the Securities and Exchange Board of India's minimum public shareholding norm.

According to SEBI, all listed companies must maintain a public shareholding of 25%.

The government currently holds an 89.27% stake. If the government exercises the greenshoe option, its total stake in the state-owned bank will come down to 81.27%.

In the 2025-26 fiscal year, the government raised ₹2,624 crore through the OFS of Bank of Maharashtra and ₹1,419 crore from Indian Overseas Bank.

Central Bank of India Q4 results

Central Bank of India reported a 30% year-on-year (YoY) decline in its net profit to ₹724.4 crore in the fourth quarter of the 2025-26 financial year (Q4 FY26), compared to ₹1,033.6 crore in the same period of the preceding fiscal year.

However, its net interest income (NII) stood at ₹4,002 crore for the reporting quarter, up by 17.8% YoY from ₹3,398.56 crore in the March quarter of the 2024-25 fiscal year (Q4 FY25).
