NSE data showed that BSE share price dropped 3.7% to touch an intraday low of ₹3,268.20 apiece on Wednesday’s market, in comparison to ₹3,394 apiece at the previous equity market close.

As of the afternoon market hours, the company shares recovered its losses marginally to trade 3% lower around ₹3,294.40 per share during the session on September 9.

Analysing the near-term trend in the market, experts predict that there is a contrasting story between equities and commodities, where normalisation in equities is expected to moderate retail investor participation, limiting BSE’s market share gains in FY27.

What do Bernstein analysts predict?

US-based investment firm Bernstein Research, initiating coverage on capital market stocks like BSE and MCX, said that the commodity exchange service provider MCX is set to outperform, while BSE is likely to underperform in terms of near-term volume trends, earnings revisions, and growth momentum.

In its latest report, the global firm said that the “best is behind” for BSE considering the softening volume growth in FY27, which comes after the company benefited from strong market volume and market share gains over the FY23-26 period.

“FY28/29 growth will normalise to mid-teens as market volumes moderate & market share shifts peak out,” said Bernstein analysts in their stock report.

Analysts said that the market volume impact due to lower volatility, the Reserve Bank of India’s norms in H2 FY27, the closing auction session (CAS) impact, and a higher base value is expected to impact BSE’s performance.

“BSE will continue to gain share; most share gains will accrue by Q4FY27. As market volume growth & share gains cool down, BSE growth normalises to mid-teens,” they said.

The experts also predicted that BSE’s valuations will likely come under pressure in the upcoming period with growth normalising off a cliff amid the impending earnings cuts.

Commodities vs Equities

While sharing a conservative (normalisation) outlook for BSE and equities, the investment firm also expects the commodities sector to be at an inflexion point where participation in commodity derivatives is expected to grow at a faster rate.

“Continued growth momentum & earnings upgrades will likely keep valuations elevated,” said Bernstein analysts, citing strong momentum and long runway for MCX shares.

The experts also said that commodities are at an earlier stage in the growth or participation curve, while equities face normalisation of market volumes.

With the positive outlook for commodity volumes, MCX shares surged 1.6% on Wednesday’s market to an intraday high of ₹3,398 apiece on NSE.

How have BSE shares performed?

NSE data showed that BSE Limited shares have delivered more than 2,286% returns to investors in the last five years, over 645% gains in last three years, and more than 39% returns on their investment in the past one-year period.

Although the company’s stock has gained 25% on a year-to-date (YTD) basis in 2026, the shares have lost 4.7% in the last one-month period. The exchange data also showed that BSE shares were trading 3.9% higher in the last five market sessions.

Shares of BSE surged to their 52-week high of ₹4,446.80 apiece on May 27, 2026, while the 52-week low was at ₹2,021.50 apiece on September 26, 2025.

The exchange service provider’s market capitalisation (m-cap) was at more than 1.34 lakh crore as of the trading session on Wednesday, September 9, 2026.
