BPCL shares in spotlight as board approves raising funds up to ₹5,000 crore via issuance of NCDs

BPCL share price today: Shares of Maharatna PSU Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) are expected to be on investors’ radar on Wednesday, August 19, as its board of directors approved raising funds up to ₹5,000 crore via the issuance of non-convertible debentures (NCDs).

According to a regulatory filing dated August 18, the state-owned oil-marketing company (OMC) will raise funds through the issuance of secured or unsecured redeemable NCDs, in one or more series or tranches up to a maximum of 10 tranches.

The company will raise funds not exceeding ₹5,000 crore within one year, the filing added.

BPCL Q1 results

In the April-June quarter of the 2026-27 financial year (Q1 FY27), BPCL incurred a ₹3,962.13 crore net loss in the first quarter, against a net profit of ₹6,123.92 crore in the same quarter of the previous financial year, according to the standalone financial statements. READ MORE.

The filing data showed that the company incurred losses due to the rise in input costs of the company in the June quarter, as global crude oil prices surged due to the US-Iran conflict in West Asia.

“The loss during the current quarter is mainly due to suppressed marketing margin on certain petroleum products, which was partially offset by higher refining margin,” the company informed the stock exchange.

In contrast, the company’s revenue from core operations advanced 23% year-on-year (YoY) to ₹1,59,479.28 crore in the June quarter, compared with ₹1,29,577.89 crore in the same quarter of the previous fiscal year.

The exchange filings further showed that the company’s operating margins dropped to a negative 4.11%, from 5.72% in the same period a year earlier. However, BPCL’s net profit margin was at negative 2.48% in the June quarter, from 4.73% a year earlier.

BPCL stock performance

Shares of BPCL closed 2.01% lower at ₹310.30 per unit on the National Stock Exchange (NSE) on Tuesday, August 18, following the announcement.

The scrip has fallen more than 2% in the past week and 2% over the month. On a year-to-date (YTD) basis, it has lost 19%.

While the stock hit a 52-week high of ₹391.65 per equity share on February 9, 2026, it touched a year’s low of ₹266.60 apiece on April 2, 2026.
