Benchmark indices, SENSEX and NIFTY50, were trading in the green during the afternoon session on Friday, August 28, amid broad-based buying in information technology (IT) stocks.
Investor sentiment was also bolstered by a decline in global crude oil prices and positive global cues.
The SENSEX advanced as much as 0.55% to hit an intraday high of 77,357.97, while the NIFTY50 rose as much as 0.4% to touch the session’s peak of 24,188.30.
While the indices were off their intraday highs, they continued to trade in the green zone at noon. At 1:02 PM, the S&P BSE SENSEX gained by 121.04 points, or 0.16%, to trade at 77,054.63. NSE’s NIFTY50 was trading flat at 24,097.40, up by 6.55 points, or 0.03%.
The NIFTY50 index was supported by TCS, HCL Technologies, Infosys, Tech Mahindra and Wipro, which were among the top gainers.
On the contrary, the top losers included Asian Paints, Shriram Finance, ICICI Bank, Tata Steel and UltraTech Cement.
Information technology (IT) stocks were trading in the green on Friday, August 28, with all the constituents of NIFTY IT advancing, driven by a buoyant outlook for US-based software and consulting firms after their latest quarterly earnings. Salesforce, a US-based software firm, reported strong results for Q2 of 2026 and raised the full-year guidance for 2027.
Salesforce reported 11% growth in its Q2 2026 revenue at $11.35 billion, with current performance obligations of $33.4 billion, up 14% YoY against the consensus of $33.2 billion.
The company raised its full-year guidance by $200 million to a range of $46.1 billion to $46.4 billion, up from $45.9 billion-$46.1 billion guided earlier in May. Additionally, the Q3 revenue guidance was raised to the range of $11.4 billion to $11.5 billion.
Shares of Dixon Technologies, Amber Enterprises India, and others were trading with gains on Friday, following news reports which stated the Goods and Services Tax (GST) Council may consider cutting the 18% GST rate on mobile phones.
The move is aimed at reviving slowing handset demand and preventing the tax from becoming a drag on India’s electronics manufacturing ambitions.
The proposal is expected to be discussed at the Council’s meeting, which is likely to be held next month.
Ather Energy shares surged as much as 8.07% to hit a 52-week high of ₹1,616 apiece on the National Stock Exchange (NSE) on Friday, August 28, as investors focused on a ₹1,758 crore stake transaction during the morning block deal window on NSE, and Hero MotoCorp’s move to purchase additional shares of the company.
Investors were also trading against the backdrop of a ₹1,758 crore block deal transaction which was carried out on August 28.
The transaction details collected from the NSE website showed that an unnamed set of buyers and sellers carried out a 1,18,80,000 equity share transaction, which was valued at ₹1,758.24 crore during the morning block deal window on Friday’s market.
Just Dial shares rallied 10% to hit the upper circuit at ₹704.55 apiece on Friday, August 28, as investors turned optimistic following the company’s change in management.
Last month, the firm had announced the appointment of a new Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and a Chief Financial Officer (CFO).
Just Dial’s board of directors had approved the appointment of Dinkar Ayilavarapu as the designated CEO and key managerial personnel of the company with effect from July 10, 2026.

NSE block deal data showed that private equity major Warburg Pincus divested a 4.25% stake in Apollo Tyres for ₹1,175 crore through open market transactions on Thursday.
US-based Warburg Pincus, through its arm Emerald Sage Investment Ltd, sold a total of 2,70,10,000 shares, representing a 4.25% stake in Gurugram-based Apollo Tyres. The shares were disposed of at an average price of ₹435 apiece, bringing the transaction value to ₹1,174.93 crore.

According to a regulatory filing dated August 27, the company said that its board of directors approved the proposal for a buyback of fully paid-up equity shares, with a face value of ₹10 each, from all shareholders or beneficial owners of the equity shares, other than the promoters and shareholders belonging to the promoter group of the firm, through the open market route.
The firm further stated that it will buy back the shares at a maximum buyback price of ₹1,530 per unit, payable in cash, for an aggregate amount up to ₹900 crore, which is the maximum buyback size.
Tejas Networks stock soared as much as 13% to an intraday high of ₹576.85 per equity share on Friday, a day after the company said it had received an order from the Indian IT services giant Tata Consultancy Services (TCS).
The domestic telecom gear maker has received a Letter of Intent (LoI) from TCS for the supply of RAN equipment, accessories and installation materials. The order covers 18,685 sites for BSNL’s 4G mobile network and is valued at ₹1,537 crore.
“The detailed Purchase Order for the same would be issued by TCS to the company in due course,” Tejas Networks said in a regulatory filing.
Shares of TVS Motor Company were in the spotlight on Friday, August 28, as the automobile manufacturer said that its board of directors appointed Peyman Kargar as Director and Chief Executive Officer (CEO), with effect from January 27, 2027.
According to a regulatory filing, the company said Kargar will succeed K. N. Radhakrishnan, who will continue as President & CEO of TVS Motor until January 27, 2027, to ensure a seamless transition.
Following the transition, Radhakrishnan will serve as non-executive director up to the date of the ensuing annual general meeting (AGM) scheduled for July 2027.
Coforge stock jumped 5% to touch a 52-week high of ₹1,998.90 apiece on Friday, August 28, after the IT firm said it is expanding its partnership with Pegasystems to accelerate enterprise AI transformation.
The partnership allows Coforge to build, package, brand, and commercially deliver Pega-powered offerings, strengthening the ability to deliver AI-led enterprise transformation programs globally.
The agreement is expected to reduce execution complexity, accelerate deployments, and speed time to value for enterprise clients. The expanded agreement builds on two decades of collaboration between Coforge and Pega.
