As the July 31 deadline approaches, Indian taxpayers are turning to Google for answers. The most common queries, according to search trends over the last three months, are not only regarding deadlines but also about comprehending the income tax filing procedure.

Google search data reveals that most taxpayers are still looking for basic guidance on filing their returns, with queries around “income tax return filing,” “income tax filing,” “filing income tax return,” and “tax return filing” emerging among the most searched terms in India.
Along with the filing process, many users are also looking for information on important timelines, with “income tax return date” ranking among the top queries ahead of the deadline.

Other fast-growing searches included “last date to file income tax return 2026,” “how to e-verify income tax return,” and “taxable income is more than basic exemption limit.”
Interestingly, searches for "LTCG u/s 112A" indicate an increase in interest in tax concerns pertaining to investments.

Google searches provide an insight into the changing concerns of Indian taxpayers, ranging from simple questions about filing returns to more complex tax regulations.

As of Monday, the income tax department said that over 4 crore income tax returns (ITRs) have been submitted for the assessment year (AY) 2026–2027.

To prevent the last-minute rush, tax department also advised taxpayers to file their forms as soon as possible and finish the procedure well in advance of the July 31 deadline.
