Gold rates in Hyderabad on November 5; indicative, before making charges and GST

Somajiguda, Jubilee Hills and other showrooms have plans to open an hour later than usual, and Charminar's smaller shops plan not to close on Thursday night until the last customer leaves.

Anyone who held back through the dip is now paying more than the price they waited out. From ₹13,888 on November 1, the rate has moved up in four consecutive sessions to ₹14,602, a gain of ₹714 a gram or 5.1%. The gains have cleared the ₹14,395 of October 29.

Hyderabad's pearl, ruby and emerald work is mounted in 18 karat because the harder alloy grips stones. However, the labour on that setting can add 20% or more to a piece, far above what plain gold commands.

A buyer comparing a stone-studded necklace with a plain one on price per gram alone will misread both the value and the resale. Please note none of the numbers above is the actual price at your jeweller's counter.

These are indicative prices. The actual price you pay depends on many factors, including the shop's stock, its zone and the day's local supply. The published rate is a reference point. So buyers should ideally compare two or three stores before deciding. On top of whatever rate you are quoted, the bill adds making charges and 3% GST. For example, 10 grams of 22 karat jewellery at 12% making charges attracts GST of ₹4,497, taking the total to about ₹1,54,409.

Buyers should insist that the hallmark and HUID are verified in front of you rather than shown on a certificate. The six-digit HUID on the piece is what ties it to a BIS record. You should also and ask for the making charge to be printed separately so that a later exchange does not turn into an argument.
