US equity market futures indicate a positive open on Friday, September 25, as investors focus on an index rebound potential after Thursday’s selloff amid elevated Treasury yields, rising oil prices and uncertainty around the recent proposal of the US-Iran peace deal.

Dow Jones futures were trading 0.31% higher at 51,848 points ahead of the opening bell on Friday’s market, indicating higher potential for positive move after yesterday’s selloff.

The S&P 500 index futures were trading 0.30% higher at 7,790 points ahead of the opening bell on September 25, while the tech-heavy Nasdaq 100 futures were up 0.52% at 30,926 points on Friday.

Although the futures indicate a higher open, the US equity market investors are expected to remain cautious with the benchmark 10-year US Treasury yields hovering around 5.18% amid the heightened uncertainty in the market.

Key things to watch before US market opens

US stocks to watch on Sept. 25

Akamai Technologies: Shares of Akamai Technologies surged more than 15% during the pre-market hours on Friday, September 25, as investors focused on the cloud computing company announcing a seven year deal with Anthropic valued at $11.6 billion.

The deal details suggest that Akamai also is set to issue warrants to Anthropic, giving the company the right to buy nearly 5% stake later.

Scholastic: Scholastic shares dropped over 13% during the pre-market Nasdaq session ahead of the opening bell on Sept 25, as investors focused on the company’s loss in the first quarter of the financial year.

The company’s revenues also declined 4% to $216.8 million in the period under review.

Synopsys: Synopsys stock surged nearly 4% during the pre-market hours on Friday, as global investment firm HSBC upgraded the company’s outlook, highlighting that the new business model will make the company benefit from AI.
Nike: Shares of Nike declined 2% during the pre-market trading hours on NYSE ahead of the opening bell as Bank of America downgraded the company to underperform category citing that they predict the sales will decline from second quarter through the remaining financial year 2027.
Tech & Chipmaking stocks: Tech and chipmaking stocks like Nvidia, SK Hynix ADR, Intel, Micron Technology, AMD, Broadcom, and Oracle among others will continue to remain in focus of investors due to the buying momentum from the Asian markets.
Energy stocks: Energy stocks listed in United States like ExxonMobil, Chevron, Shell, Total Energies, among others are set to remain in focus of investors as crude oil prices bounced back again to $107 per barrel.

Asian markets today

The equity benchmark indices in Asian ended on a mixed note after their trading session on Friday, September 25, as a strong performance in the Japanese market clashed with the underperforming stocks in China and Hong Kong amid rising global treasury yields and elevated oil prices.

Japan’s Nikkei 225 ended 1.3% higher, India’s SENSEX closed 0.43% higher, South Korea’s KOSPI ended 0.90% higher, and Singapore’s FTSE ended 0.49% higher after the trading session on Sept. 25.

While, China’s Shanghai Composite ended 1.22% lower, and Hong Kong’s Hang Seng declined to close 1.01% lower after the trading session on Friday.

Oil rises to $107/barrel

Global crude oil prices surged to hit a high of $107.17 per barrel (bbl) during the trading session on Friday, as investors focused on the uncertainity of the potential peace deal talks between the United States and Iran.

Data showed that global benchmark Brent crude prices have gained 20% in the past one month, and over 40% in the last three months due the re-esclations in the West Asia region.

As of 5:47 pm (IST), Brent crude oil prices were trading 1% lower at $105.46 per bbl on Friday, in comparison to $106.6 per bbl at the previous commodity market close.

Latest media reports showed that Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has proposed to re-open the Strait of Hormuz and resume the nuclear talks with the United States withing the next seven days if the Trump administration accepts the West Asian country’s conditions.

This comes soon after US President Donald Trump’s ‘annihilation’ threat during his speech at the United Nations General Assembly earlier this week.

How did US markets end on Thursday?

US equity market indices ended largely flat with Dow and S&P at the lower side after their trading session on Thursday, September 24, as investors focused on the fresh multi-year high of Treasury yields and the bounce back in global crude oil prices.

MarketWatch data showed that the Dow Jones Industrial Average index ended 0.31% lower at 51,349.98 points after Thursday’s market session, in comparison to 51,511.59 points at the previous equity market close.

The S&P 500 index closed 0.02% lower at 7,704.13 points after the trading session on Thursday, compared to 7,706.03 points at the previous US equity market close, as per the exchange data.

While the tech-heavy Nasdaq 100 index closed with flat gains at 30,478.86 points after the trading session on September 24, in comparison to 30,470.29 points at the previous Wall Street close.
