US markets today: US equity futures on Wall Street indicate a gap-up opening on Thursday, August 27, as investors focused on the strong Q2 earnings performance from major stocks like Nvidia, Salesforce, among others amid selling pressure from Asian markets.

Dow Jones futures were trading 0.08% lower at 53,480 points ahead of the opening bell on Thursday’s market, indicating a flat but positive opening on August 27 in comparison to the previous Wall Street close.

While the S&P 500 index futures were trading 0.38% higher at 7,719 points ahead of the opening bell on Thursday, indicating an around 44-point higher open, according to the exchange data.

The Nasdaq 100 futures were trading around 0.91% higher at around 29,559 points before the opening bell, indicating a 355-point higher opening in comparison to the previous Wall Street close, due to the tech sector momentum from Nvidia’s strong earnings.

US stocks to watch on August 27

Nvidia Corp.: Nvidia shares surged more than 8% during pre-market hours on Nasdaq ahead of the opening bell on August 27, as investors reacted to the company’s better-than-expected financial performance in the June quarter results for 2026.

The company’s management’s forward guidance was positive, with a revenue outlook of $108 billion in the third quarter of FY2026-27. The firm posted a 106% YoY increase in revenues and a 126% YoY gain in net profit in the Q2 earnings.

Dollar General: Dollar General shares surged more than 6% during the pre-market hours on NYSE ahead of Thursday’s opening bell, as the company raised its full-year earnings guidance.

The company also announced that it intends to repurchase shares under its existing share repurchase program in the second half of the fiscal year.

Salesforce: Salesforce shares surged more than 10% during the pre-market trading hours on August 27, as investors focused on the company’s 11% YoY increase in Q2 revenues to $11.35 billion.

The company also raised its FY27 revenue and earnings guidance with key support from Salesforce’s artificial intelligence (AI) offerings to its clients.

Okta: Okta shares surged more than 18% during the pre-market hours ahead of the opening bell on Thursday’s market, as investors focused on the company's second-quarter results, which exceeded Wall Street analyst expectations.
CrowdStrike Holdings: Shares of CrowdStrike surged more than 9% during the pre-market session on August 27, as the company’s revenue and earnings per share expectations exceeded market consensus estimates.
Chipmaking stocks: Other chipmaking stocks like Micron Technology, Broadcom, Advanced Micro Devices (AMD), Intel, and Applied Materials, among others, will be in focus of investors after the sector's momentum post Nvidia’s earnings.

US markets recap

The US equity market indices ended on a mixed note on Wednesday, August 26, with the Dow and S&P closing marginally lower, while the Nasdaq 100 ended a few points higher as investors focused on placing their bets ahead of Nvidia’s Q2 earnings report.

MarketWatch data showed that the Dow Jones Industrial Average ended 0.21% lower at 53,463.88 points after the trading session on Wednesday, in comparison to 53,577.40 points at the previous equity market close.

The exchange data further showed that the S&P 500 index closed 0.02% lower at 7,675.70 points after the stock market session on August 26, compared to 7,677.28 points at the previous market session.

In contrast, the tech-heavy Nasdaq 100 index ended marginally higher by 0.05% at 29,224.52 points after the trading session, in comparison to 29,209.23 points at the previous Wall Street close.

Crude oil prices

Although crude oil prices have lost nearly 5% in the last five market sessions, the benchmark Brent crude rates were trading nearly 1% higher during the trading hours on Thursday, August 27.

Investing.com data showed that crude oil prices surged 0.94% to $87.78 per barrel (bbl) on Thursday’s trading session, compared to $86.94 per bbl at the previous market close.
