Top gainers and losers, September 18: Adani Ports jumps 5%, AEL up 3%, TCS falls 4%; check list

Top gainers and losers: The Indian benchmark indices, SENSEX and NIFTY50, closed mixed on Friday, September 18, with SENSEX closing flat with a negative bias and the NIFTY ending in positive territory.

The NIFTY50 index touched an intraday high of 23,389 and SENSEX rose as much as 414 points during the trading session, as crude oil prices declined and US bond yields eased. Additionally, Moody's Ratings raised India's GDP growth forecast for the 2026-27 fiscal year to 7%, from 6% earlier.

On September 18, the SENSEX closed flat at 74,294.96, down by 19.63 points or 0.03%, while the NIFTY50 ended higher by 75.80 points or 0.33% at 23,346.40.

NIFTY50 top gainers and losers

Adani Ports & Special Economic Zones led the NIFTY50 pack, closing 4.93% higher, after Jefferies noted the company remains confident of achieving its 1 billion tonne cargo target by 2030, implying a 16% CAGR versus Jefferies’ estimate of 13%, driven by organic growth in domestic ports and the ramp-up of international ports.

Integrating technology into its strong port infrastructure remains a focus area, while logistics is also seen as a growth enabler for the ports business. The balance sheet remains strong, with the company potentially turning net cash by FY31E, indicating room for growth capex.

It was followed by Adani Enterprises Ltd (AEL) (3.31%), Bharti Airtel (3.12%), HDFC Bank (2.52%), and Bajaj Finance (2.49%), which were among the top gainers on Friday.

On the other hand, the top losers included Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) (-3.88%), Tata Motors PV (-3.40%), SBI Life Insurance Company (-2.03%), Coal India (-1.94%) and Maruti Suzuki (-1.90%).

NIFTY Midcap 100 top gainers and losers

NSE’s midcap gauge, the NIFTY Midcap 100, closed in the green at 62,191.25, marking a 759.15-point or 1.24% jump.

The top winners included Adani Total Gas (12.03%), Supreme Industries (7.05%), RVNL (6.24%), Lenskart Solutions (6.10%), and ICICI Asset Management Company (5.70%).

On the flip side, KPIT Technologies (-4.88%), Tata Elxsi (-3.40%), Tata Investment Corporation (-2.55%), Dixon Technologies (-2.14%) and Voltas (-2.12%) were among the other top laggards.

NIFTY Smallcap 100 top gainers and losers

The NIFTY Smallcap 100 index surged 340 points or 1.74% to close at 19,875.70.

The top gainers were Poonawalla Fincorp (12.06%), Welspun Corp (8.12%), Jyoti CNC Automation (7.41%), Physicswallah (6.42%), and BEML (6.02%).

On the contrary, Tata Chemicals (-11.54%), Tata Technologies (-5.24%), Syngene International (-3.20%), Star Health and Allied Insurance Company (-2.74%), and Dr. Lal Path Labs (-1.67%) were among the top losers.
