While the market was trading in the green zone for the majority of the trading session, it ended in negative territory, as global crude oil prices surged.
On September 3, both the benchmark indices ended at their intraday lows, with the SENSEX slumping 417.49 points or 0.55% to close at 76,152.86. Meanwhile, NIFTY50 ended at 23,873.45, down by 41 points or 0.17%.
The top losers in the index included Tech Mahindra (-1.65%), Cipla (-1.62%), HCL Technologies (-1.37%), ITC Ltd (-1.20%) and Titan Company (-1.16%).
Shares of HCLTech fell despite informing the exchanges that the company and Transport for NSW (TfNSW)’s Sydney Coordinated Adaptive Traffic System (SCATS) have entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to explore the advancement of AI-powered analytics capabilities for SCATS.
HCLTech will explore integrating Sarvam’s multilingual foundation models with SCATS, enabling traffic operators, planners and engineers to query and analyze SCATS data in local Indian languages, it said in a regulatory filing.
On the other hand, Adani Ports & Special Economic Zone (1.57%), Axis Bank (1.32%), HDFC Bank (1.13%), Bharat Electronics Ltd (BEL) (0.68%) and Asian Paints Ltd (0.65%) were among the other top gainers.
Shares of Axis Bank and HDFC Bank surged amid buying in banking stocks, following the update that India attracted a whopping $127.23 billion in Foreign Currency Non-Resident (FCNR-B) deposits under the Reserve Bank's special USD-INR forex swap facility till August 31, the closing date.
NSE’s NIFTY Midcap 100 gauge surged 0.37% or 233.60 points to close at 63,235.20 on September 3.
The index was bolstered by BSE Ltd (4.36%), SBI Cards and Payment Services (4.07%), GMR Airports (3.06%), KEI Industries (3.04%) and GE Vernova T&D India (2.88%), which were among the top winners.
On the flip side, the top laggards included MCX (-3.52%), Bharat Forge (-2.50%), Federal Bank (-2.48%), APL Apollo Tubes (-2.29%) and 360 One Wam (-2.23%).
The NIFTY Smallcap 100 index advanced by 1.20% or 238.50 points to end at 20,050.75.
The top gainers were Brigade Enterprises (13.28%), Jyoti CNC Automation (7.79%), Anant Raj (6.48%), Capri Global Capital (6.04%) and Brainbees Solutions (5.55%).
Shares of Brigade Enterprises and Anant Raj soared amid a surge in the NIFTY Realty index.
Furthermore, the stock of Capri Global Capital hit a 52-week high on Thursday, September 3, after the NBFC company said it has completed its first-ever US dollar bond issuance, raising $300 million through senior secured notes maturing in 2029.
On the contrary, Deepak Fertilizers And Petrochemicals Corporation (-4%), Ola Electric Mobility (-3.93%), Pine Labs (-3.74%), Ather Energy (2.80%) and Kaynes Technology India (2.74%) were among the top losers.
