Benchmark indices, SENSEX and NIFTY, continued their winning run for the 10th straight day to close at record high levels on Monday following gains in FMCG, IT and banking shares.

NIFTY rose by 0.17%, or 42.8 points, to settle at a record peak of 25,278 points, extending the gains for the 13th straight day. The key index has gained nearly 1140 points in its 13-day gaining streak. As many as 27 NIFTY shares closed in the green, while 23 stocks closed in the red.

NIFTY opened strong and hit the day’s high of 25,333 in early trade but lost some of the gains later in the day amid mixed global cues. The index slipped into the red to touch a low of 25,235 but recovered ground in the closing session.

Rising for the 10th day in a row, benchmark BSE SENSEX rallied 194 points, or 0.24%, to close at an all-time high of 82,559. In the 10-day winning run, SENSEX has rallied over 2.5%.

Among sectoral indices, NIFTY FMCG gained the most by over 0.82% as ITC, HUL, and Nestle advanced. NIFTY PSU Bank also gained nearly 0.51%, while NIFTY IT rose by over 0.44%.

Broader markets however witnessed profit-taking with the NIFTY Midcap and Smallcap indices dropping over 0.20%.

Bajaj Finserv and Bajaj Finance are among the top gainers

Bajaj Finserv was the lead gainer among NIFTY50 shares, rising by 3.31% to ₹1,842 after experts sounded bullish on the stock. The stock moved between a high of ₹1,862 and a low of ₹ 1,787.8 apiece on the NSE in intraday trade. Bajaj Finance shares also gained 3.05% to close at ₹7,420.
HCL Technologies shares hit a 52-week high of ₹1,812 per share before closing higher by 2.67% at ₹1,800 apiece on the NSE. Last week, HCL Tech told analysts that it was seeing an uptick in discretionary spending in the BFSI compared to a few months ago.
Hero MotoCorp rose by 2.19% to ₹5,575 on better-than-expected monthly sales numbers for August. SBI Life advanced 2.01% to ₹1,887.45.

Hindalco, Dr Reddy’s Lab top losers

Hindalco Industries was the top loser among NIFTY shares, declining by 2.55% to ₹683.5 apiece at close. Dr Reddy’s Labs fell by 2.32% to ₹6,868 apiece after an import ban by the Chinese authority on its ADHD treatment drug.
Tata Motors declined 1.65% to ₹1,093 apiece after it reported an 8% fall in August sales figures.
NTPC dropped 1.45% to ₹410.15 while ONGC fell by 1.35% to ₹326.3 apiece on the NSE.
