Top gainers and losers on May 21: Bharat Electronics surges 5.26%, Tata Steel, Cipla, HDFC Life gain over 1.47%; check full list

SUMMARY

HDFC Bank, ICICI Bank, Bharti Airtel, Bajaj Finance, Sun Pharma and Larsen & Toubro were among the top movers in the SENSEX. They alone added 225 points towards the SENSEX.

The Indian equity benchmarks rebounded strongly on Wednesday led by gains in index heavyweights like HDFC Bank, ICICI Bank, Bharti Airtel, Bajaj Finance, Sun Pharma and Larsen & Toubro. Earlier in the day, the SENSEX rose as much as 835 points and NIFTY50 index touched an intraday high of 24,941.70 before paring gains in noon deals. The SENSEX ended 410 points higher at 81,596.63 and NIFTY50 index rose 130 points to close at 24,813.45.

NIFTY50 top gainers and losers

Bharat Electronics was top gainer in the NIFTY50 basket of shares, the stock rose 5.26% to close at ₹382.95 after the company in its conference call said that it expects orders worth ₹27,000 crore in current financial year.

Tata Steel (1.93%), Cipla (1.83%), HDFC Life (1.47%) and Bajaj Finserv (1.46%) were also among the gainers.

On the flipside, IndusInd Bank was top loser in the NIFTY50 basket. The stock fell 1.98% to close at ₹766.80 ahead of its earnings announcement.

JSW Steel (-1.07%), Kotak Mahindra Bank (-0.84%), Grasim (-0.65%) and Coal India (-0.65%) were also among the losers.

NIFTY Midcap 100 gainers and losers

NIFTY Midcap 100 index rose 0.78% or 437 points to close at 56,619.60. As many as 83 shares out of 100 ended higher.

Solar Industries was top gainer in the NIFTY Midcap 100 index. The stock rose 5.26% to close at ₹14,198 after its net profit rose 37% to ₹322 crore in January-March quarter.

Motilal Oswal (5.13%), Bharat Dynamics (4.68%), PB Fintech (4.54%) and NTPC Green (4.03%) were also among the gainers.

On the other hand, Dixon Techn was top loser in the NIFTY Midcap 100 index. The stock fell 5.84% to close at ₹15,598 after it March quarter earnings failed to enthuse investors.

Aditya Birla Fashion and Retail (-2.36%), Max Healthcare (-1.78%), Indian Bank (-1.61%) and Paytm (-0.97%) were also among the laggards.

NIFTY Smallcap 100 gainers and losers

NIFTY Smallcap 100 index rose 0.38% or 66 points to close at 17,548.60. As many as 67 shares in the index ended higher while 33 closed lower.

Tata Teleservices (Maharashtra) was top loser in the NIFTY Smallcap 100 index. The stock rose 20% to close at ₹69.87 after a report suggested that Tata Sons may be forced to inject fresh capital into its loss-making telecom arm, Tata Teleservices Ltd, as the unit stares at Rs 19,256 crore in adjusted gross revenue (AGR) and other dues owed to the Indian government.

Trident (13.51%), Go Digit Insurance (7.68%), Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers (4.70%) and IDBI Bank (4.49%) were also among the gainers.

On the contrary, Newgen Software Technologies was top loser in the NIFTY Smallcap 100 index, the stock fell 4.91% to close at ₹1,269.

Radico Khaitan (-4.76%), Aster DM Healthcare (-4.50%), Aegis Logistics (-4.42%) and Afcons (-3.70%) were also among the losers.
