Top gainers and losers on March 23: Titan, Shriram Finance, Trent shares fall over 6%; check full list

The Indian equity benchmarks nosedived on Monday, March 23 and closed at their lowest levels in over 22 months as geopolitical tensions in Middle East escalated and entered fourth week. The SENSEX fell as much as 1,975 points and NIFTY50 index touched an intraday low of 22,471 dragged down by losses in index heavyweights like HDFC Bank, ICICI Bank, Bharti Airtel, State Bank of India, Larsen & Toubro, Titan and Mahindra & Mahindra.

The SENSEX dropped 1,837 points to close at 72,696 and NIFTY50 index tumbled 602 points to close at 22,513.

NIFTY50 top gainers and losers

Titan was top loser in the NIFTY50 index, the stock fell 6.43% to close at ₹3,842. Shares of the country's largest jewellery retailer came under selling pressure after gold prices dropped by as much as 10.3% on the MCX to hit an intraday low of ₹1,29,595.

Shriram Finance (-6.16%), Trent (-5.97%), Jio Financial Services (-5.6%) and HDFC Life (-5.38%) were also among the losers in the NIFTY50 index.

On the flip side, HCL Technologies (1.75%), Power Grid (0.81%) and Tech Mahindra (0.3%) were notable gainers in the NIFTY50 index.

NIFTY Midcap 100 top gainers and losers

NIFTY Midcap 100 index dropped 3.9% or 2,138 points to close at 52,718. A total of 98 shares ended lower in the 100-share index.

SAIL was top loser in the NIFTY Midcap 100 index, the stock dropped 7.86% to close at ₹143.30. The stock fell mirroring losses in other metal stocks.

Godfrey Phillips (-7.51%), Bharat Dynamics (-7.32%), Muthoot Finance (-6.81%) and Adani Total Gas (-6.78%) were also among the laggards.

On the other hand, Coforge (0.8%) and Premier Energies (0.5%) were notable gainers in the NIFTY Midcap 100 index.

NIFTY Smallcap 100 gainers and losers

NIFTY Smallcap 100 index crashed nearly 4% or 620 points to close at 15,099. As many as 97 shares ended lower in the 100-member index.

Brainbees Solutions was top loser in the NIFTY Smallcap 100 index, the stock fell 12% to close at ₹221. Hindustan Copper (-8.5%), Jindal Saw (-8.31%), Tejas Networks (-8.22%) and BEML (-8.09%) were also among the top laggards in the NIFTY Smallcap 100 index.

On the contrary, Trident, Dr Lal Path Labs and Go Digit General Insurance were only gainers in the NIFTY Smallcap 100 index.
