Top Gainers and losers on August 30: Cipla, Bajaj Finance and M&M top NIFTY movers

SUMMARY

Cipla shares gained the most among the NIFTY constituents. The pharma stock closed at ₹1,654.6 apiece, up by 2.23%. Bajaj Finance, Mahindra & Mahindra and Divis Laboratories emerged as the major NIFTY gainers, while Tata Motors and HDFC Bank were the top losers.

In the last trading session of the month, benchmark indices closed at record highs amid heavy buying across sectors. NIFTY extended its gains for the 12th straight day, marking its longest-ever winning streak, while SENSEX also sustained the rally for the 9th day.

NIFTY50 settled at 25,235 up, by 83.95 points, or 0.33%, on Friday, August 30. The benchmark index scaled an intraday high of 25,268. BSE SENSEX gained 231.16 points, or 0.28%, to settle at 82,365. The index hit a high of 82,637 in intraday trade.

Among the sectoral indices, NIFTY Realty and NIFTY Pharma were the top gainers, closing higher at 1.83% and 1.48%, respectively. On the other hand, NIFTY FMCG and NIFTY Media closed in the red.

Out of the 50 constituents of the benchmark NIFTY index, 9 closed in the red, dragged by Tata Motors, HDFC Bank and Tech Mahindra.

Cipla and Bajaj Finance lead NIFTY gainers

Cipla shares gained the most among constituents of the benchmark NIFTY index. The pharmaceutical company’s shares closed at ₹1,654.6 apiece, up by 2.23%. The stock surged nearly 3% to trade at an intraday high of ₹1,663.7 apiece on the NSE.
Bajaj Finance stock gained over 2% to hit an intraday high of ₹7215.05 apiece. However, the stock pared some gains to settle 2.07% higher at ₹7,210 apiece. It was also the top gainer on the NIFTY Financial Services Index.
Shares of Mahindra & Mahindra gained over 2% to hit a high of ₹2821.55 apiece on the NSE. The stock closed higher by 1.97% at ₹2,812 apiece.
Divis Laboratories shares surged over 2% to hit an intraday high of ₹5132.5 apiece. The stock closed 1.84% higher at ₹5,105 apiece on the NSE.
Shares of NTPC gained more than 2% to trade at an intraday high of ₹419.2 apiece before closing at ₹417.2, up by 1.78%.

Among other NIFTY constituents, Hero Motocorp, Bajaj Finserv and Power Grid Corporation of India closed higher by up to 1.72% on August 30.

Tata Motors and HDFC Bank emerge as top draggers among NIFTY stocks

Automotive company Tata Motors shares declined the most among constituents of the 50-share NIFTY index. The stock dipped over 2% to hit a low of ₹1097.45 apiece. The company’s stock closed at ₹1,109 apiece, down by 1.13%.
HDFC Bank shares declined 1.06% to trade at an intraday low of ₹1621.15 per share earlier today. The stock closed lower by 0.78% at ₹1,625.75 apiece.
Tech Mahindra shares closed lower by 0.72% at ₹1,635.55 apiece, and Coal India shares dropped 0.68% to ₹523.95 apiece. Reliance Industries Limited stock also tanked 0.56% to ₹3024.95 apiece at the close.

ITC, HCL Technologies and Hindustan Unilever shares also emerged as losers among constituents of the NIFTY index, trading lower by up to 0.22%.
