Top gainers and losers on April 4: Tata Steel, Hindalco, ONGC crash over 7%; check full list

Tata Steel and Hindalco were among the top losers in the NIFTY50 index, both the stocks fell over 8% after media reports suggested that the new US tariffs could dent the demand for industrial metals globally.

The Indian equity benchmarks came under heavy selling pressure on Friday, April 4, as announcement of reciprocal tariffs by President Donald Trump rattled markets globally. The SENSEX fell as much as 1,055 points and NIFTY50 index touched an intraday low of 22,857.45 on the back of a broad-based selling pressure. The SENSEX ended 930.67 points or 1.22% lower at 75,364.69 and NIFTY50 index declined 345.65 points or 1.49% to close at 22,904.45.

NIFTY50 top gainers and losers

Tata Steel and Hindalco were among the top losers in the NIFTY50 index, both the stocks fell over 8% after media reports suggested that the new US tariffs could dent the demand for industrial metals globally amid fears of recession. ONGC dropped 7% after price of crude oil in international markets dropped below $65 per barrel. Tata Motors (-5.94%) and Cipla (-5.29%) were also among the losers.
On the other hand, Bajaj Finance (1.69%), Tata Consumer Products (1.59%), HDFC Bank (1.22%), Apollo Hospitals (0.95%) and Nestle India (0.57%) were among the notable gainers in the NIFTY50 index.

NIFTY Midcap 100 gainers and losers

NIFTY Midcap 100 index ended 2.91% or 1,516 points lower at 50,645.95 underperforming the NIFTY50 index. As many as 93 shares ended lower while only seven managed to close higher. NALCO was top loser in the NIFTY Midcap 100 index, the stock fell 8.62% to close at ₹157.78 mirroring weak trend in other metal shares as NIFTY Metal index dropped 6.56%.

Bharat Forge (-7.89%), Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders (-6.93%), NMDC (-7.07%) and Hindustan Zinc (-7.05%) were also among the gainers.

On the flipside, Marico was top gainer in the NIFTY Midcap 100 index. The stock advanced 3.01% to close at ₹680.85. Max Financial Services (1.32%), Max Healthcare (1.07%), Colgate Palmolive (0.75%) and Indus Towers (0.74%) were also among the gainers.

NIFTY Smallcap 100 gainers and losers

Smallcap shares underperformed their mid and larger peers as NIFTY Smallcap 100 index crashed 3.56% or 589.50 points to close at 15,675.95. As many as 94 shares in NIFTY Smallcap 100 index ended lower.

Hindustan Copper was top loser in the NIFTY Smallcap 100 index, the stock dropped 8.88% to close at ₹204.80. Angel One (-7.40%), Laurus Labs (-7.20%), BEML (-6.45%) and PG Electroplast (-6.39%) were also among the laggards.

On the flipside, Castrol India (1.07%), Karur Vysya Bank (0.89%), Narayana Hrudayalaya (0.87%), PNB Housing Finance (0.81%) and Ramco Cements (0.15%) were among the notable gainers in the NIFTY Smallcap 100 index.
