The Indian equity benchmarks ended sharply higher on Wednesday, April 1, mirroring gains in global markets after US President Donald Trump said the military could end its Iran offensive in two to three weeks. The SENSEX rose as much as 2,017 points and NIFTY50 index touched an intraday high of 22,941.30. The benchmarks, however, came off intraday highs on account of profit booking and SENSEX ended 1,187 points higher at 73,134 and NIFTY50 index advanced 348 points to close at 22,679.

NIFTY50 top gainers and losers

IndiGo was among top gainers in the NIFTY50 index, the stock advanced 6% to close at ₹4,183 after it appointed William Walsh former CEO of British Airways and IAG (International Airlines Group) as its Chief Executive Officer from July 31, 2026.

Trent (6.86%), Adani Ports (5.63%), Bharat Electronics (4.83%) and Adani Enterprises (4.72%) were also among the top gainers in the NIFTY50 index.

On the flip side, Dr Reddy's Labs (-3.78%), HDFC Life (-3.12%), Cipla (-2%), Apollo Hospitals (-1.54%) and Sun Pharma (-1.5%) were top losers in the NIFTY50 index.

NIFTY Midcap 100 top gainers and losers

NIFTY Midcap 100 index advanced 2.22% or 1,169 points to close at 53,819. As many as 79 shares ended higher while 20 closed lower.

Cochin Shipyards was top gainer in the NIFTY Midcap 100 index, the stock advanced 12.31% to close at ₹1,340, mirroring gains in other defence shares.

Bharat Dynamics (10.36%), Groww (7.98%), Motilal Oswal (7.41%) and Tata Investment Corporation (7.35%) were also among the top gainers in the NIFTY Midcap 100 index.

On the other hand, LG India (-3.86%), Ashok Leyland (-3.59%), Blue Star (-3.49%), Supreme Industries (-2.81%) and Voltas (-2.5%) were top laggards in the NIFTY Midcap 100 index.

NIFTY Smallcap 100 top gainers and losers

NIFTY Smallcap 100 index surged 3.33% or 506 points to close at 15,710. A total of 95 shares ended higher while five closed lower.

Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers was top gainer in the NIFTY Smallcap 100 index, the stock climbed 20% to close at ₹2,367 after it recorded the highest annual turnover in its history for FY 2025-26, amounting to ₹6,400 crore (Provisional & Unaudited), as against ₹5,076 crore in FY 2024–25. The shipyard has also declared an interim dividend @ 129% of paid-up share capital against 89.5% in FY 2024–25.

Ola Electric (13.82%), Reliance Power (10.31%), Anant Raj (10.18%) and IDBI Bank (10%) were also among the top gainers in the NIFTY Smallcap 100 index.

On the contrary, Piramal Finance (-3.52%), Navin Fluorine (-2.38%), Nuvama Wealth Management (-1.49%), Affle (-0.77%) and Amber Enterprises (-0.37%) were notable losers in the NIFTY Smallcap 100 index.
