Top gainers and losers, March 17: Eternal rallies 6%, Tata Steel up 4%, Wipro down 2%; check list

Top gainers and losers: The benchmark indices, SENSEX and NIFTY50, closed in the green for the second consecutive day on Tuesday, March 17, amid buying in metal and capital market stocks.

On Monday, the foreign institutional investors (FIIs) sold stocks worth ₹9,365.52 crore, while the domestic institutional investors (DIIs) purchased equities worth ₹12,593.36 crore on a net basis, according to exchange data.

The SENSEX gained as many as 801.41 points to hit the session’s peak of 76,304.26 and the NIFTY50 index touched an intraday high of 23,656.80.

The SENSEX surged by 567.99 points or 0.75% to close at 76,070.84, while the NIFTY50 ended higher by 172.35 points or 0.74% at 23,581.15 on Tuesday.

NIFTY50 top gainers and losers

The NIFTY50 index was supported by buying in the shares of Eternal, which closed 5.59% higher.

Tata Steel (4.42%), Mahindra & Mahindra (2.85%), HDFC Life Insurance Company (2.70%) and Bharat Electronics (2.67%) were among the other top gainers.

Bharat Electronics (BEL) stock advanced as the company secured additional orders worth ₹1,011 crore, it informed the exchanges at the time of market closing.

On the contrary, the top losers included Wipro (-2.06%), Cipla (-1.51%), Tata Consumer Products (-1.39%), Infosys (-1.26%) and ITC (-1.23%).

Shares of Wipro and Infosys fell amid a broad-based decline in the NIFTY IT index, which plunged as much as 2.6% to touch a two-year low of 28,288.05 on March 17.

NIFTY MIDCAP 100 top gainers and losers

The NSE Midcap gauge ended at 55,174.40, marking a 559.45 points or 1.02% jump.

It was bolstered by gains in National Aluminium Company (6.41%), Steel Authority of India (5.74%), Coromandel International (3.92%), BSE Ltd (3.89%) and KPIT Technologies (3.58%), which were the top winners.

On the flipside, NTPC Green Energy ended 2.55% lower. It was followed by Vishal Mega Mart (-2.36%), Persistent Systems (-2.35%), Hindustan Petroleum Corporation (-2.20%) and Tata Elxsi (-2.19%), which were among the top laggards.

NIFTY Smallcap 100 top gainers and losers

The NIFTY Smallcap index advanced by 102.55 points or 0.65% to close at 15,912.90.

Its top gainers included Data Patterns (6.27%), Jyoti CNC Automation (5.53%), Multi Commodity Exchange (4.75%), The Great Eastern Shipping Company (4.41%) and Chambal Fertilizers & Chemicals (4.22%).

Conversely, Poonawalla Fincorp (-4.12%), Cholamandalam Financial Holdings (-3.38%), Mangalore Refinery and Petrochemicals (-3.35%), Radico Khaitan (-3.09%) and Ola Electric Mobility (-3%) were among its top losers.
