SUMMARY

Shares of Hero Motocorp gained the most among all constituents of the benchmark NIFTY. The auto stock closed at ₹5,967 apiece, up by 3.25%. Bajaj Auto, Bharti Airtel and NTPC were major gainers among other NIFTY constituents. On the other hand, Tata Motors and Eicher Motors emerged as the top losers.

Benchmark indices SENSEX and NIFTY closed flat on Tuesday, September 17. The NIFTY50 index closed at 25,418, up by 34.8 points, or 0.14%. The key index surged to an intraday high of 25,441.

BSE SENSEX settled at 83,079, up 90.88 points, or 0.11%. The index rallied to an intraday high of 83,152 points earlier.

Among the sectoral indices, NIFTY Realty and NIFTY Consumer Durables were the top gainers as they closed higher at 0.61% and 0.49%, respectively. NIFTY Media and NIFTY PSU Bank emerged as the top drags among sectoral indices, closing in the red, lower by up to 1.19%.

Out of the total 50 NIFTY constituents, 29 closed in the negative territory dragged by Tata Motors, Eicher Motors and Tata Steel.

Hero Motocorp and Bajaj Auto emerge as top NIFTY gainers

Hero Motocorp shares gained the most among constituents of the benchmark NIFTY index. The automotive company’s shares closed at ₹5,967 apiece, up by 3.25%. Earlier today, the stock surged over 3% to hit a 52-week high at ₹5,984.95 apiece. The stock gained following a positive outlook ahead of the festive season and the anticipated launch of new products.
Bajaj Auto shares traded higher by more than 2% to hit a 52-week high of ₹11,972.85 apiece on the NSE, following the launch of two new motorcycles named Triumph Speed T4, and MY25 Speed 400. The stock settled 2.02% higher at ₹11,925 apiece.
Shares of Bharti Airtel gained over 1% to hit an intraday high of ₹1,666.05 apiece on the NSE. The stock closed higher by 1.68% at ₹1,663 apiece. The telecom major announced its partnership with e-commerce giant Amazon to offer Amazon Prime benefits to its customers.
NTPC Ltd shares gained over 1% to hit an intraday high of ₹417.65 apiece. The stock closed 1.19% higher at ₹416 apiece on the NSE.

Shares of carmaker Mahindra and Mahindra gained more than 1% to trade at an intraday high of ₹2793.5 apiece before closing flat at ₹2,782, up by 0.89%.

Among other NIFTY constituents, Cipla, Britannia Industries and ONGC closed higher by up to 0.82% on September 17.

Tata Motors and Eicher Motors emerge as top losers

Tata Motors shares declined the most among NIFTY constituents. The stock dipped over 2% to hit a low of ₹960 apiece. The company’s stock closed at ₹975 apiece, down by 1.36%.
Shares of Eicher Motors dropped more than 1% to hit an intraday low of ₹4816.65 per share. The stock closed lower by 1% at ₹4,850 apiece.
Shares of Tata Steel closed lower by 0.98% at ₹152.7 apiece and shares of Coal India tanked 0.96% to close at ₹488.5 apiece. JSW Steel also closed flat at ₹962.5 apiece, down by 0.88%.

Shares of Adani Ports and SEZ, BPCL, and Grasim also emerged as losers among the NIFTY index's constituents, declining up to 0.85%.
