The SENSEX advanced as much as 0.55% to hit an intraday high of 77,357.97, while the NIFTY50 rose as much as 0.4% to touch the session’s peak of 24,188.30.
On August 28, the SENSEX surged by 330.91points or 0.43% to close at 77,264.51. Meanwhile, NIFTY50 ended higher by 84.80 points or 0.35% at 24,175.65.
The NIFTY50 index was supported by buying in Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), which closed 4.16% higher, amid a surge in the NIFTY IT index. The NIFTY IT index advanced, as it was driven by a buoyant outlook for US-based software and consulting firms after their latest quarterly earnings. Salesforce, a US-based software firm, reported strong results for Q2 of 2026 and raised the full-year guidance for 2027.
It was followed by Tech Mahindra (3.53%), Infosys (2.99%), HCL Technologies (2.66%) and Wipro (2.58%), which were among the other top gainers.
Shares of Wipro rose after the IT firm said it is expanding a partnership with Google Cloud to accelerate the enterprise-wide adoption of Gemini Enterprise and agentic AI.
As part of this partnership, Wipro has launched the LIFT (Launch-Ignite-Flywheel-Transform) framework to help enterprises accelerate AI transformation and operationalise agentic AI at scale.
Powered by Wipro Intelligence, the unified suite of AI platforms, solutions, and transformative offerings, the LIFT framework integrates Gemini Enterprise with Wipro’s AI-powered delivery platforms, WINGS and WEGA. Wipro explained that this unified ecosystem enables organisations to seamlessly transition from basic task automation to embedding secure, autonomous AI agents directly into their core, multi-step business workflows.
On the contrary, the top losers included ICICI Bank (-1.40%), Shriram Finance (-1.28%), ITC Ltd (-1.12%), UltraTech Cement (-1.09%) and Asian Paints (-0.85%).
The NSE Midcap gauge ended at 64,069.50, marking a 34.05-point or 0.05% increase.
It was supported by gains in Coforge (5.93%), Container Corporation of India (4.65%), Persistent Systems (3.91%), KPIT Technologies (3.64%) and Steel Authority of India (3.63%), which were among the top winners.
On the flip side, Bharat Dynamics (-3.16%), Jubilant Foodworks (-2.69%), Billionbrains Garage Ventures (-2.67%), L&T Finance (-2.36%) and NHPC Ltd (-2.26%) were among the top laggards.
The NIFTY Smallcap index closed at 20,080.00, up by 39.35 points or 0.20%.
Its top gainers included Ather Energy (8.09%), IFCI Ltd (7.04%), Capri Global Capital (5.21%), Sagility (4.68%) and Tata Technologies (4.35%).
Shares of Ather Energy hit a 52-week high on August 28 as investors focused on a ₹1,758 crore stake transaction during the morning block deal window on NSE, and Hero MotoCorp’s move to purchase additional shares of the company.
Conversely, Devyani International (-3.87%), Physicswallah (-3.86%), City Union Bank (-2.87%), CESC (-2.72%) and Whirlpool of India (-2.55%) were among the top losers.
