The Indian equity benchmarks erased intraday gains and fell sharply lower in afternoon deals on Tuesday, April 28, as investor sentiment turned cautious after crude oil jumped above $110 per barrel igniting fears of spiralling inflation going ahead. The SENSEX fell as much as 700 points from day's highest level and NIFTY50 index touched an intraday low of 23,961 after hitting a high of 24,181 earlier in the session.

As of 1:45 pm, the SENSEX was down 397 points at 76,904 and NIFTY50 index declined 93 points to 24,000.

Here are stocks witnessing heavier than usual trading volumes:
Tata Chemicals: Shares of the chemicals maker surged as much as 13% to hit an intraday high of ₹816.80 amid spike in trading activity.

Trading volume on the NSE spiked by 28 times to 1.38 crore shares compared with an average trading volume of 4.87 lakh shares.

On the BSE, 12.16 lakh shares changed hands compared with an average of 66,000 shares traded daily in the past two weeks.

Piramal Finance: Shares of the non-banking finance company jumped as much as 12.5% to hit an intraday high of ₹2,073.20 after its net profit jumped 390% to ₹502 crore in fourth quarter of financial year 2025-26.

The stock was witnessing very high trading activity as volume spiked by 22 times to 90.77 lakh shares compared with an average trading volume of 4.11 lakh shares.

On the BSE, a total of 3.75 lakh shares changed hands compared with an average of 93,000 shares traded daily in the past two weeks.

Cohance Lifesciences: Shares of the drug maker climbed for a second straight session and rose as much as 19% to hit an intraday high of ₹514.90 after the company said that it appointed former Cipla CEO, Umang Vohra, as its Executive Chairman and Group CEO.

Trading volume jumped by 8 times to 3.21 crore shares against an average trading volume of 40 lakh shares.

Adani Total Gas: Shares of the city gas distribution company rose as much as 7.75% to touch an in8traday high of ₹684.90 after the company said that its revenue form operations in March quarter rose 16% on the back of higher volumes.

The company's volume in March quarter rose 13%.

The stock was witnessing high volumes as the trading volume jumped 5 times to 1.27 crore shares compared with an average trading volume of 25.93 lakh shares.

On the BSE, as many as 13.42 lakh shares changed hands compared with an average of 4 lakh shares traded daily in the past two weeks.
