NIFTY50 and SENSEX continue to witness high volatility for the third straight trading session. As of 1:30 pm, NIFTY50 is down 30 points or 0.11% to trade at 25,182, recovering from the day’s low of 24,919.80. Meanwhile, BSE SENSEX declined 112 points or 0.13% to trade around 82,078. SENSEX hit a day low of 81,124 today.
The NIFTY50 index tumbled for the third straight day amid weak market sentiments. So far this month, NIFTY50 is down over 3.5%, declining in 10 out of the 14 trading sessions of January.
Markets continue to remain volatile after a sharp decline in the previous session because of the fall in global stock market indices, FIIs sell-off and rising geopolitical concerns.
Benchmark indices showed a sharp recovery from the day’s low, with NIFTY50 and SENSEX rising nearly 1% from their respective lows amid value buying from investors as NIFTY50 declined below the 25,000 level for the first time since October 2025.
Decline in international crude oil prices also supported the oil stocks with the NIFTY Oil & Gas index among the top sectoral gainers. Besides this, US stock market futures are trading higher after a sharp decline yesterday, which offered some boost to investors' sentiments.
Broader market indices like NIFTY Midcap100 (-1.2%) and NIFTY Smallcap100 (-1.5%) are also trading lower. More than 700 stocks hit their 52-week low today as investors did profit booking amid weak market sentiments.
The volatility index, or India VIX, is up 7.9% to 13.75. Among NIFTY sectoral indices NIFTY Chemicals (-2.2%), NIFTY Realty (-1.3%) and NIFTY PSU Bank (-1.0%) were top losers, while NIFTY Oil & Gas (+0.3%) and NIFTY Metal (+0.1%) were top gainers. Trent (-2.1%), Bharat Electronics (-1.8%), and ICICI Bank (-1.7%) were the top three NIFTY50 losers, while Eternal(+5.3%), IndiGo (+1.6%) and ONGC (+1.0%) were among the top gainers.
