SENSEX gains 234 pts, NIFTY50 at 25,250 in noon deals; Eternal, Dr Reddy’s among buzzing stocks

The Indian benchmark indices, SENSEX and NIFTY50, continued to trade in positive territory during the afternoon session on Thursday, January 22, as easing geopolitical tensions abated investors' worries.

Furthermore, the market was bolstered by the US President Donald Trump hinting at optimism on a bilateral trade deal with India, along with gains in PSU Bank and media stocks.

The SENSEX advanced as much as 873.55 points to an intraday high of 82,783.18 in early trade. Meanwhile, the NIFTY50 touched the session’s high of 25,435.75.

At 12:32 PM, the S&P BSE SENSEX was up by 234.25 points, or 0.29%, to 82,143.88, while NSE’s NIFTY50 was trading at 25,250.25, marking a 92.75 points, or 0.37% increase.

On Wednesday, the foreign institutional investors (FIIs) sold stocks worth ₹1,787.66 crore, while the domestic institutional investors (DIIs) purchased equities worth ₹4,520.47 crore on a net basis, according to exchange data.

The top gainers of the NIFTY50 index included Dr Reddy's Laboratories (5.67%), Bharat Electronics (2.69%), Adani Enterprises (2.66%), Tata Motors PV (2.36%) and Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone (2.23%).

On the contrary, Titan Company (-1.33%), SBI Life Insurance Company (-1.06%), Eternal (-1.01%), Max Healthcare Institute (-0.82%) and Eicher Motors (-0.57%) were among the top losers.

Bajaj Consumer Care

The stock of Bajaj Consumer Care hit 20% upper circuit on the National Stock Exchange (NSE) on Thursday, after reporting an 83% surge in its consolidated profit after tax to ₹46.37 crore for Q3 FY26. The company had posted a post-tax profit of ₹25.31 crore a year ago.

Its revenue from operations stood at ₹306.09 crore in the reporting quarter, up 30.57% from ₹234.41 crore in Q3 of FY25, it said in a regulatory filing on January 21.

Eternal

Eternal shares in the opening deal jumped as much as 7.58% to hit a high of ₹305 apiece on the NSE. However, the scrip erased all its gains later and slipped into the red.

Eternal, on Wednesday, reported a 72.88% rise in consolidated net profit at ₹102 crore for the December quarter of FY26, driven by robust revenue growth from its quick commerce operations. In the year-ago period, the company logged a profit of ₹59 crore.

The company's board also approved the resignation of Deepinder Goyal as Director, MD & CEO of the company, with effect from February 1 and recommended his appointment as Vice Chairman & Director on the board for a five-year term.

Additionally, the board approved the appointment of Albinder Singh Dhindsa, currently CEO of Blinkit, as Chief Executive Officer of Eternal, effective February 1, according to a regulatory filing.

Dr Reddy's Laboratories

Dr Reddy’s Laboratories stock gained as much as 5.82% to an intraday high of ₹1,224.50 apiece.

The drugmaker reported a 14.4% year-on-year (YoY) decline in its consolidated net profit to ₹1,209.8 crore for the December FY26 quarter, compared to ₹1,413.3 crore in the year-ago period, it said in a regulatory filing on Wednesday.

While the profit fell, it beat analysts’ expectations, who expected the profit to slump 20-22% annually to ₹1,085-₹1,110 crore.

The pharmaceutical company’s revenue from operations gained 4.4% annually to ₹8,726.8 crore during the quarter under review, as against ₹8,358.6 crore in the third quarter of the 2024-25 fiscal year (Q3FY25).

However, analysts had expected its revenue to mostly remain flat, rising just 0.5–1% YoY to ₹8,390–8,425 crore.

Hindustan Zinc

Shares of Hindustan Zinc fell as much as 6.44% to the session’s low of ₹652.65 per unit, as silver futures (for March delivery) broke their rally and declined 4% on the MCX.

Furthermore, the Indian silver exchange-traded funds (ETFs) crashed 20% on Thursday.

Waaree Energies

Waaree Energies stock hit an intraday high of ₹2,740 apiece, up 13%, after its net profit for the quarter jumped 118% to ₹1,106 crore as compared to ₹506 crore in Q3FY25.

The company posted strong revenue growth of over 118% YoY to ₹7,565 crore, as against ₹3,457 crore in the same period last year.

On the operational front, the EBITDA for the company jumped 167% YoY to ₹1,928 crore as against ₹921 crore in the same period last year.

PNB Housing Finance

PNB Housing Finance shares fell as much as 10% to the day’s low of ₹837.50 apiece, despite its net profit rising % YoY to ₹520.96 crore in Q3FY26, compared to ₹471.43 crore in the year-ago period.

Its net interest income (NII) increased 12.8% YoY to ₹757 crore, as against ₹671 crore in Q3FY25.

Bank of India

Bank of India stock rallied as much as 6.93% to a fresh 52-week high of ₹168.40 apiece on the NSE, after posting a 7.4% annual jump in its net profit to ₹2,705 crore in the third quarter of the 2025-26 financial year (Q3FY26).

In the corresponding quarter of the previous fiscal year, it had logged a profit of ₹2,518 crore.
