The Indian equity benchmarks extended losses in noon deals on Tuesday, September 8, as sentiment remained weak tracking a surge in crude prices amid rising geopolitical tensions in West Asia.

The SENSEX fell as much as 538 points and NIFTY50 index touched an intraday low of 23,637 dragged down by losses in index heavyweights like ICICI Bank, Reliance Industries, HDFC Bank, Axis Bank, Bharti Airtel and Larsen & Toubro.

As of 12:34 pm, the SENSEX was down 445 points at 75,688 and NIFTY50 index declined 117 points to 23,661.

Here are shares witnessing heavier than usual trading activity:
Pfizer: Shares of the drug maker dropped for a second straight session and fell as much as 5.88% to an intraday low of ₹4,324 after the company said that will discontinue the marketing, distribution and sale of Minipress XL.

Trading volume in the stock jumped by 6.6 times on the National Stock Exchange (NSE) to 1.08 lakh shares compared with an average volume of 16,464 shares.

As many as 4,085 shares changed hands on the BSE compared with an average of 993 shares traded daily in the past two weeks.

PCBL Chemical: Shares of the country's leading carbon black maker advanced 5.3% to an intraday high of ₹334 amid spike in trading activity.

Trading volume in the stock soared by six times to 44.77 lakh shares compared with an average volume of 7.5 lakh shares.

On the BSE, 3.24 lakh shares exchanged hands compared with an average of 50,000 shares traded daily in the past two weeks.

Data Patterns: Shares of the defence equipment maker climbed 7.5% to an intraday high of ₹4,935 mirroring gains in other defence stocks after defence ministry on Monday approved acquisition of military hardware for the three services including radars, advanced light helicopters and mechanical mine layers at an estimated cost of ₹1.10 lakh crore to boost the military's overall combat prowess.

The procurement proposals were cleared by the Defence Acquisition Council (DAC) headed by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh.

Trading volume in the stock jumped by 5.6 times to 20.66 lakh shares compared with an average volume of 3.69 lakh shares.

Linde India: Shares of the country's leading industrial gases maker advanced 1.8% to an intraday high of ₹6,480 amid spike in trading activity.

Trading volume on the NSE jumped by 5 times to 81,711 shares compared with an average volume of 16,203 shares.

On the BSE, 24,000 shares changed hands compared with a two weeks average of 1,102 shares.

Piramal Pharma: Shares of the drugmaker advanced as much as 5.55% to an intraday high of ₹232 as trading volumes jumped.

Trading volume on the NSE spiked by 5 times to 1.76 crore shares compared with an average volume of 35.62 lakh shares.

A total of 8.45 lakh shares changed hands on the BSE compared with an average of 4.9 lakh shares traded daily in the past two weeks.
