The Indian benchmark indices, SENSEX and NIFTY50, continued to trade in the positive territory during the afternoon session on Wednesday, July 29, supported by buying in metal and information technology (IT) stocks.
Furthermore, investor sentiment also improved as Larsen & Toubro posted better-than-anticipated June quarter earnings post market hours on Tuesday.
Overnight, US stocks ended higher on Tuesday, even as shares of computer chipmakers continued to tumble across the globe.
The SENSEX rallied as much as 1.2% to hit an intraday high of 77,675.71. Meanwhile, the NIFTY50 gained as much as 1.15% to reach the session’s peak of 24,261.45.
At 1:24 PM, the S&P BSE SENSEX jumped by 891.57 points, or 1.16%, to trade at 77,657.49. NSE’s NIFTY50 was trading at 24,251.50, marking a 266.15-point, or 1.11% increase.
Foreign institutional investors (FIIs) bought shares worth ₹755 crore on Tuesday while domestic institutional investors bought stocks worth ₹1,664 crore, as per exchange data.
Shares of Tata Capital surged as much as 6.46% to hit an intraday high of ₹377.90 per unit on the National Stock Exchange (NSE) on Wednesday, July 29, a day after the Tata Sons subsidiary reported its earnings for the April-June quarter of the 2026-27 financial year (Q1 FY27).
The NBFC reported a 56% year-on-year (YoY) surge in its consolidated net profit to ₹1,547.38 crore during the quarter under review, compared with ₹989.89 crore in the first quarter of the 2025-26 fiscal year (Q1 FY26).
Its net interest income (NII) rose 25% YoY to ₹3,571 crore in the June quarter of FY27, from ₹2,866 crore in the corresponding period of the previous fiscal year, according to a regulatory filing dated July 28.
Its assets under management (AUM) stood at ₹2.91 lakh crore as on June 30, 2026, reflecting a 22% YoY growth from ₹2.37 lakh crore as on June 30, 2025. Excluding Motor Finance, its AUM grew by 28% YoY.
The stock of Larsen & Toubro (L&T) jumped as much as 3.8% to reach the session’s peak of ₹3,978.20 per equity share on July 29, as investors focused on the company’s healthy Q1 financial performance while concerns remain on the margin growth front.
Larsen & Toubro’s board of directors announced the company’s April to June quarter results for the financial year 2026-27 after the market hours on Tuesday, July 28, where the company recorded a 14% YoY growth in net profits.
However, on a sequential basis, the company’s net profits declined 22.5% to its June quarter levels, from ₹5,325.60 crore in the fourth quarter of the financial year 2025-26.
On the revenue front, L&T’s revenue from core operations advanced around 7% to ₹67,942 crore in the first quarter, from ₹63,679 crore in the same quarter of the previous financial year, as per the exchange filings.
Shares of Hindustan Unilever Ltd (HUL) climbed as much as 4.8% to hit an intraday high of ₹2,119.60 apiece, a day after reporting its Q1 results. Following the announcement of its June quarter earnings, the scrip had reached its 52-week low level on July 28.
The rise comes after the management’s commentary following the FMCG major’s June quarter earnings. HUL Chief Financial Officer Niranjan Gupta said the company had passed on only half the inflation through pricing in the June quarter yet maintained its earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortisation (EBITDA) margin at 23%, within its guided range.
"We will continue to take some calibrated, measured steps on pricing and we will continue to drive savings as well," Gupta said, reiterating the 2-5% sequential inflation estimate for the current quarter.
HUL's planned price hikes are less about boosting profits and more about protecting margins amid rising input costs. The key monitorable for investors will be whether the company can maintain volume growth while passing on higher costs to consumers.
Inox Wind stock climbed as much as 3.9% to touch an intraday high of ₹78.88 apiece on Wednesday, July 29, as the company bagged an order from NLC India.
Worth ₹1,600 crore, the wind energy solutions provider secured a repeat order of a 200 MW turnkey order.
Under the contract, Inox Wind will be responsible for the end-to-end execution of the project, including the supply of wind turbine generators, engineering, procurement & construction (EPC), and post-commissioning operations and maintenance services. The company said that the project is scheduled to be commissioned within 24 months from the date of the Letter of Award (LoA).
With this, the company's order book stands at 4.7 GW, comprising a well-diversified mix of commercial & industrial (C&I) customers, public sector undertakings (PSUs), and independent power producers (IPPs).
Rail Vikas Nigam Ltd (RVNL) shares gained as much as 3.2% to hit an intraday high of ₹228.40 per unit on the NSE, after it received a letter of award (LOA) from East Central Railway.
The order was for “Construction of doubling work including earth work, blanketing, minor bridges, major bridges, station & other buildings, platform work, LC work and other miscellaneous works for 25T Indian Railway Standard Loading from Kundawa Chainpur (excl.) to Raxaul (excl.) (i.e. Ch.145.500 to 186.540) (total- 41.04 km) in connection with doubling of Sitamarhi-Raxaul section in Samastipur Division of East Central Railway”.
The size of the order is ₹358.97 crore.

It is indicated for the reversal of neuromuscular blockade induced by rocuronium bromide and vecuronium bromide in adult and pediatric patients undergoing surgery.
Shares of One 97 Communications, the parent company of Paytm, advanced on the NSE on July 29 on the launch of Paytm Split Bills on the Paytm app.
As per the regulatory filing, Paytm said that friends can create a group, add each expense and choose whether to divide it equally, by exact amount, shares or percentage.
The group summary shows the total amount spent, each person’s share, pending balances, amounts to pay or receive, and recent activity.
Furthermore, Payment reminders can be sent directly from the Paytm app, while dues can be settled through Paytm UPI with the amount and recipient details already filled in.
