NIFTY50, SENSEX today: Wall Street cues, FII activity, key things to know before markets open on August 3

The Indian equity benchmarks are set to stage a gap up opening on Monday, August 3, as indicated by GIFT NIFTY futures. NIFTY futures at GIFT City in Gandhinagar surged 180 points or 0.74% to 24,628 as crude oil prices dropped after reports suggested that United States President Donald Trump cancelled military strikes on Iran and said that negotiations with Iran will begin on Monday and a deal over the Strait of Hormuz was imminent.

The Indian equity benchmarks rose for a third straight session on Friday led by gains in index heavyweight Bajaj Finance, Mahindra & Mahindra, Reliance Industries, Bajaj Finserv, Bharti Airtel, Adani Ports and Tata Steel. The SENSE rose as much as 462 points from the day's lowest level and NIFTY50 index touched an intraday high 24,429 after hitting a low of 24,300.

The SENSEX ended 166 points or 0.21% higher at 78,095 and NIFTY50 index advanced 66 points to close at 24,384.

Asian markets

Most of Asian markets were trading lower despite a drop in crude oil prices as investor sentiment in the region remained subdued on the back of selloff in artificial intelligence (AI) related shares.

Japan's Nikkei fell 1.5%, China's Shanghai Composite declined 0.64%, Hong Kong's Hang Seng fell 0.1% and South Korea's KOSPI fell 4%.

Crude oil update

Brent crude fell as much as 7% to $81.93 per barrel tracking easing of geopolitical tensions in West Asia after Trump said that he had agreed to halt strikes on Iran following requests from West Asian allies to give diplomacy a chance, CNBC TV18 reported.

Wall Street update

US stocks ended higher on Friday. Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 0.53%, S&P 500 index rose 0.7% and tech heavy Nasdaq gained 1%.

FII/DII activity

Foreign institutional investors (FIIs) bought shares worth ₹277 crore on Friday while domestic institutional investors bought stocks worth ₹2,260 crore, as per NSE data.

FIIs turned net buyers in July for the first time since February and bought shares worth ₹20,200 crore, data from NSDL showed.

Stocks to watch

ONGC, Oil India, Reliance: Oil & gas stocks such as ONGC, Oil India (OIL), Reliance Industries (RIL), among others, are expected to remain in focus on Monday, August 3, as the Union Cabinet last week approved 'Samudra Manthan' – the National Offshore Exploration Scheme to unlock India's offshore energy potential.

Samudra Manthan is a central sector scheme of the Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas with an approved outlay of ₹84,084 crore for implementation up to FY 2030–31.

ITC: The country's largest cigarette maker on Friday post market reported a 15.6% decline in its consolidated profit to ₹4,508.79 crore for the June quarter of 2026-27, mainly due to higher expenses.

It had posted a consolidated profit of ₹5,343.41 crore in the April-June quarter a year ago, according to a regulatory filing by the Kolkata-headquartered company.

ITC's revenue from sale of products increased by 27.82% to ₹29,409.82 crore in the June quarter of FY27. Its revenue from operations was at ₹29,523.3 crore, up 27.64 per cent in the first quarter of FY27 compared to ₹23,129.35 crore a year ago.

Maruti Suzuki: The country's largest car maker on Friday reported a standalone net profit of ₹3,352 crore in the April-June quarter, registering an 11% decline from ₹3,758 crore during the same period last year. The fall was primarily driven by higher material costs during the quarter, which further intensified due to the impact of the war.

The company's total revenue from operations, including the sale of products and other operating revenue, jumped 36% year-on-year (YoY) to ₹52,456 crore in Q1 FY27 from ₹38,593 crore in the year-ago period.

Maruti Suzuki’s operating profit, also known as earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortisation (EBITDA), slipped 7% YoY to ₹4,312 crore as compared to ₹4,621 crore in the corresponding period of the previous financial year.

HFCL: Telecom equipment maker HFCL on Sunday said it has bagged export orders worth $54.81 million (about ₹522.73 crore) for the supply of optical fibre cables.

In a regulatory filing, the company stated that the contracts are scheduled to be executed by January 2027.

"The company has secured export orders worth $54.81 million (equivalent to ₹522.73 crore) for the supply of optical fibre cables from renowned international customers. These orders reaffirm the confidence reposed by our customers in the company's manufacturing capabilities, technological excellence and product quality," HFCL said.

InterGlobe Aviation: As IndiGo marks 20 years of operations, the airline that transformed air travel in India is preparing for what its co-founder calls a "longer leap of flying" as it charts an ambitious international expansion to connect the global Indian diaspora to their homeland, recapture international traffic now flowing through Gulf hubs and, over the longer term, carry passengers between foreign countries via India.

The country's largest airline, which has a domestic market share of more than 66 per cent, is set to induct Airbus A321 XLR aircraft before taking delivery of wide-body A350s from 2028.

Bank of Maharashtra: Public sector lender Bank of Maharashtra slashed its home loan rate to 7% from the existing 7.1% as part of an offer.

The bank has launched of a special limited period -- Monsoon Dhamaka -- offering its home loan starting from 7% interest rate along with complete waiver of processing fees and documentation charges, BoM said in a statement on Sunday.

This triple benefit of reduced interest rates with zero processing fees and documentation charges reflects bank's commitment to offer best financing solutions to all its customers and help them fulfil their dreams, it said.

Muthoot Finance: Gold loan NBFC Muthoot Finance on Saturday reported a 43% increase in its consolidated profit to ₹2,825 crore for the first quarter ended June 2026.

The company had posted a profit of ₹1,974 crore in the corresponding quarter of the previous year.

Total income rose to ₹8,695 crore for the quarter under review from ₹6,485 crore in the April-June quarter of FY26, Muthoot Finance said in a regulatory filing.

Raymond Lifestyle: Raymond Lifestyle reported widening of its consolidated loss to ₹22.59 crore for the June quarter of 2026-27 against ₹19.82 crore in the same period of the last year.

Its revenue from operations rose by 6% to ₹1,515.51 crore in the June quarter compared to ₹1,430.43 crore in the year-ago period, according to a regulatory filing from Raymond Lifestyle, a Raymond Group firm.

Hero MotoCorp: Two-wheeler market leader Hero MotoCorp on Saturday reported an 18.6% rise in total sales at 5,33,416 units in July 2026 as compared to 4,49,755 units in the same month last year.

Domestic sales were at 5,01,403 units last month as compared to 4,12,397 units in July 2025, up 21.6%, Hero MotoCorp said in a statement.

Motorcycle sales were at 4,68,565 units last month as against 4,00,615 units in July 2025. Scooter sales were also higher at 64,851 units as against 49,140 units in the year-ago month.

Exports were down 14.3% at 32,013 units as against 37,358 units in the year-ago month, it added.
