NIFTY50 opens above 25,000 mark, SENSEX jumps 438 points; consumer durable stocks gain, Titan top contributor

Tracking the global cues, the equity benchmark indices opened with gains on Wednesday, June 25, as the truce between Iran and Israel remained on hold.

At 9:31 AM, the S&P BSE SENSEX was up 438.12 points, or 0.53%, at the 82,493.23 level, while NSE’s NIFTY50 was at the 25,169.15 level, rising 124.80 points, or 0.50%.

The broader market also inched up, with the Nifty Midcap 100 and Nifty Smallcap 100 gauges advancing 0.34% and 0.84%, respectively.

Except for Nifty Private Bank (-0.11%), all the other sectors were seen higher in the early session, with Nifty Consumer Durables gaining the most.

The market breadth was largely in favour of positives, as 2,038 stocks advanced on the NSE out of 2,391 stocks traded during the opening session.

According to exchange data, on Tuesday, the foreign institutional investors (FIIs) sold equities worth ₹5,266.01 crore on a net basis, while the domestic institutional investors (DIIs) purchased ₹5,209.60 crore worth of equities.

On the global front, most of the stocks in the Asian market were trading positively on easing geopolitical tensions.

Hong Kong's Hang Seng was trading up 0.91% at the 24,396.52 level, while the Shanghai Composite was trading at the 3,430.40 level, rising 0.29%. South Korea’s Kospi was also seen higher by 0.13% to 3,107.63 levels. However, Japan's benchmark Nikkei 225 was trading down marginally by 0.09% at 38,764.26 levels.

On Wall Street, the stocks ended with sharp gains after oil prices eased further on hopes that Israel’s war with Iran will not damage the global flow of crude.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average gained 507.24 points, or 1.19%, to end at 43,089.02 levels, and the S&P 500 jumped 67.01 points, or 1.11%, to close at 6,092.18. The Nasdaq Composite settled at 19,912.53 levels, surging 281.56 points, or 1.43%.

Top gainers and losers
As many as 42 stocks on the NIFTY50 index were trading in the green, and only 8 were seen lower.

Titan was the top contributor, rising 1.85%, followed by Nestle India (1.36%), Tata Consumer Products (1.34%), Hindustan Unilever (1.19%) and Reliance Industries (1.08%).

On the other hand, Kotak Mahindra Bank (-0.61%), Eicher Motors (-0.20%), Bharat Electronics (-0.19%), SBI Life Insurance (-0.17%) and ICICI Bank (-0.13%) were the top losers on the 50-share index.

Market statistics

As many as 2,518 stocks traded on the NSE during the early session, among which only 2,100 stocks were trading in the green, 370 in the red and 48 shares remained unchanged.

As many as 33 stocks hit their one-year high in the early trade, while 9 stocks touched their 52-week low.

Further, 44 stocks hit their upper circuits while only 16 hit their lower circuits.

India VIX, the volatility gauge, was trading 2.40% lower at 13.64 levels.
