After a volatile session, the Indian stock market ended flat on Thursday, November 13, with metal stocks leading the gains amid positive global cues. Additionally, Moody’s decision to maintain its forecast for India’s GDP growth further supported market sentiment.

During intraday trading, NIFTY50 and SENSEX touched their highs of 26,010.70 and 84,919.43, respectively.
At close, the S&P BSE SENSEX stood at the 84,478.67 level, up 12.16 points, or 0.01%, while the NSE NIFTY50 rose 3.35 points, or 0.01%, to settle at 25,879.15.

During the session, the Nifty Bank hit a record high of 58,615.95, while the Nifty Midcap 100 also touched a fresh peak of 61,131.85 before losing momentum later in the day.

Moody’s on Thursday kept India’s economic growth forecast for 2025 unchanged at 7%, as the country remains one of the fastest-growing major economies. The rating agency also maintained its outlook for India’s GDP growth at 6.4% in 2026 and 6.5% in 2027. Read more

According to exchange data, on Wednesday, the foreign institutional investors (FIIs) sold shares worth ₹1,750.03 crore, while the domestic institutional investors (DIIs) bought equities worth ₹5,127.12 crore on a net basis.

Globally, most of the Asian markets closed in green on Thursday as investors stayed cautious amid a lack of fresh economic data, leaving uncertainty around the Federal Reserve’s policy outlook.

South Korea's KOSPI and Japan's Nikkei settled 0.49% and 0.25% higher, respectively. The Shanghai Composite gained 0.73%, while Hong Kong's Hang Seng rose 0.55%.

On Wall Street, the major US indices ended mixed on Wednesday, with the Dow hitting a record high as investors grew optimistic about a potential resolution to the government shutdown.

The S&P 500 rose 0.06% to end at 6,850.92, and the Dow Jones Industrial Average gained 0.68% to close at 48,254.82, while Nasdaq slipped 0.26% to settle at 23,406.46.

Market statistics

As many as 3,187 stocks traded on the NSE on Thursday. Out of this, 1,367 advanced and 1,732 stocks declined, while 88 scrips remained unchanged.

This indicated that the market breadth was in favour of declines.

A total of 71 stocks hit their 52-week highs, while 96 stocks touched their one-year lows. Besides, 95 stocks hit their upper circuit limits, and 62 touched their lower circuit bands on Thursday.

The market capitalisation of NSE-listed firms stood at ₹471.02 lakh crore at the close of the session.

India VIX, the volatility gauge, stood at 12.16 levels, rising 0.43%.

Broader market

The broader markets also ended lower, with the Nifty Smallcap 100 index dipping 0.37% to close at 18,183.65, while the Nifty Midcap 100 index slipped 0.35% to settle at 60,692.05.

Sectoral watch

Among sectors, Nifty Metal led the gains, rising 0.44%, followed by Nifty Realty up 0.42% and Nifty Pharma up 0.41%. On the other hand, Nifty PSU Bank (-0.68%), Nifty Media (-0.55%), and Nifty FMCG (-0.51%) were the top losers.

Top gainers and losers

On the NIFTY50, 29 stocks ended in the red, while 22 gained on Thursday.

Among contributors, Asian Paints (3.77%), Hindalco Industries (2.47%), IndiGo (1.99%), ICICI Bank (1.95%) and Larsen & Toubro (1.27%) took the lead.

On the flip side, Eternal (-3.69%), Tata Motors CV (-2.84%), Mahindra & Mahindra (-2.84%), Eicher Motors (-1.2%) and Tata Steel (-1.15%) were the major laggards on the 50-share index.
