JSW Steel Q2 FY7 business updates: Crude steel production rises 5%; shares in focus

JSW Steel shares will be on investors’ radar after the firm on Thursday, October 8, said its consolidated crude steel production grew 5% year-on-year (YoY) to 7.27 million tonnes for the quarter ended September 30, 2026 (Q2 FY27). Sequentially, it has increased 10%.

The production at the company’s Indian operations rose 5% YoY and 11% quarter-on-quarter (QoQ) to 7.07 million tonnes in the reporting period, over the corresponding quarter.

JSW Steel’s consolidated production in the first half of the current financial year (H1 FY27) jumped 4% to 13.86 MT as against 13.32 MT reported in the year-ago period.

“The capacity utilisation of Indian operations for Q2 FY27 was at 88%, while the capacity utilisation is ~90% for the month of September 2026, as BF3 of Vijayanagar is gradually ramping-up after the shutdown for upgradation of capacity,” JSW Steel said ina regulatory filing.

Over the last three decades, JSW Steel has grown from a single manufacturing unit to become the country’s leading integrated steel company with a combined crude steel capacity of 37.9 MTPA, including 4.5 MTPA through the JSW JFE Steel JV.

JSW Steel said its next phase of growth will take combined capacity to 54.8 MTPA over the next four years. The company’s plant in Vijayanagar, Karnataka, is the largest single-location steel-producing facility in India with a current capacity of 19.5 MTPA and is being expanded to ~25 MTPA by FY30, which would make it the world's largest steel plant.

JSW Steel is the flagship business of the diversified, $25 billion JSW Group. The company aims to reduce its CO₂ emissions by 42% from its steel-making operations by 2030 and has committed to achieving net neutrality in carbon emissions for all operations under its direct control by 2050.

JSW Steel Q1 FY27 earnings

The country’s largest steel maker's net profit more than doubled to ₹4,651 crore in the April-June period compared with ₹2,184 crore in the same period last year.

The Mumbai-based company's total revenue from operations advanced 10% to ₹47,364 crore in the first quarter of the current financial year from ₹43,147 crore in the year-ago period.

JSW Steel reported strong operational performance as its earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortisation (EBITDA) came in at ₹9,383 crore at the end of June quarter, up 24% from ₹7,576 crore in the corresponding period last financial year. Its EBITDA margin improved by 230 basis points to 19.81%.

JSW Steel share price trends

On Thursday, JSW Steel shares settled at ₹1,175.2 apiece on the National Stock Exchange, declining 4.46%.

From the beginning of the year, JSW Steel shares have gained nearly 1%. Over a month’s time, the stock has slipped 9%, while it has fallen 1.2% in the past six months.

Shares of the company had touched their one-year high of ₹1,351 apiece on August 27, 2026, while their 52-week low of ₹1,073.20 was hit on December 18, 2025.

JSW Steel has a total market capitalisation of ₹2.87 lakh crore as of October 8, 2026, according to data on the NSE.
