The US-based PE firm is looking to invest up to ₹2,850 crore in the JBM unit, though negotiations are underway to finalise the size of the stake and deal structure, the report said.
The stock exchanges have sought clarification from JBM Auto with reference to the development. The reply is, however, awaited.
JBM Auto, in a regulatory filing, responded and said that the subsidiary's management, in the ordinary course of business, continuously evaluates various strategic initiatives, including potential fund-raising opportunities, to support its growth and expansion.
"As on date, there is no material information requiring disclosure under Regulation 30 of the SEBI (LODR) Regulations, 2015. Appropriate disclosures will be made, if required," it added.

JBM Auto had posted a 14% jump in consolidated net profit at ₹42 crore for the first quarter of the current financial year (Q1 FY27) as compared to ₹37 crore in the same period last year.
The auto components and equipment firm’s revenue from operations also advanced 15% year-on-year (YoY) to ₹1,442 crore in the April-June up period from ₹1,254 crore in the year-ago period.
The company reported strong operational performance as its earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortisation (EBITDA) increased 17% annually to ₹163 crore as against ₹140 crore in Q1 FY26.
Its operating profit margin in the reporting quarter expanded marginally to 11.30% in contrast to 11.16% on a yearly basis.
At close, JBM Auto shares settled at ₹673.95 apiece on the National Stock Exchange, rising 8.12%.
Over a month’s time, the stock has slipped 1%, while it has jumped 16% in the past six months. From the beginning of the year, JBM Auto shares have climbed 5%.
Shares of the company had touched their one-year high of ₹790 apiece on September 23, 2025, while their 52-week low of ₹477 was hit on March 16, 2026.
According to NSE data, as of August 21, 2026, JBM Auto has a total market capitalisation of ₹15,678.39 crore.
JBM Auto has a dedicated integrated electric bus manufacturing facility with a capacity to produce up to 20,000 buses annually, offering a complete portfolio of e-buses, including city, intercity, luxury coach, school, staff, tarmac, and special-purpose vehicles.
