The SENSEX surged as much as 730 points and NIFTY50 index touched an intraday high of 24,005 powered by gains in Reliance Industries, HDFC Bank, ICICI Bank, Kotak Mahindra Bank, Bajaj Finance, ITC, State Bank of India and Larsen & Toubro.

As of 12:16 pm, the SENSEX was up 552 points at 76,704 and NIFTY50 index advanced 72 points to 23,945.

Here are shares surging amid spike in volumes:
HBL Engineering: Shares of the country's leading research-based engineering company rose 8.71% to hit an intraday high of ₹724 after the company said that it expects good sales of Kavach rail signalling systems in FY27 and FY28.

Trading volume in the stock jumped by 16.4 times to 1.03 crore shares compared with an average volume of 6.28 lakh shares on the National Stock Exchange (NSE).

As many as 9.23 lakh shares changed hands on the BSE compared with an average of 82,000 shares traded daily in the past two weeks.

Gland Pharma: Shares of the Hyderabad-based drug maker advanced as much as 2.24% to an intraday high of ₹2,970 amid spike in trading activity.

Trading volume on the NSE jumped 6.8 times to 20.82 lakh shares compared with an average volume of 3.07 lakh shares.

A total of 1.07 crore shares changed hands on the BSE compared with an average of 49,000 shares traded daily in the past two weeks.

Earlier this week, company informed exchanges that United States Food and Drug Administration (USFDA) conducted a routine Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) inspection at the company's VSEZ Sterile Oncology Formulations Facility and API Facility at Visakhapatnam between August 24 and September 1 with zero Form 483 observations.

MMTC: Shares of the state-run trading company advanced as much as 6.2% to an intraday high of ₹66.14 amid spike in volumes.

Trading volume on the NSE jumped by 6.4 times to 64.68 lakh shares compared with an average volume of 10.13 lakh shares.

A total of 3.98 lakh shares were traded on the BSE compared with a two-week average of 1.2 lakhs shares.

Titagarh Rail Systems: Shares of the railway wagons maker advanced as much as 6.22% to an intraday high of ₹897.60.

Trading volume on the NSE jumped by 5.1 times to 18 lakh shares compared with an average volume of 3.55 lakh shares.

As many as 2.41 lakh shares changed hands compared with an average of 41,000 shares traded daily in the past two weeks.

Angel One: Shares of the brokerage firm advanced as much as 7.78% to an intraday high of ₹308, mirroring gains in other capital market related stocks after markets regulator Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) said that it plans to review the derivative settlement methodology at expiry amid concerns over using the closing auction session (CAS) determined closing price as the settlement basis.

In a statement on Thursday, SEBI said it may propose changes to the existing methodology, with a consultation paper on the proposed framework likely to be released in about a week.

Trading volume in the stock jumped 3.7 times on the NSE to 2.21 crore shares compared with an average volume of 60.50 lakh shares.
