The Indian equity benchmarks were trading lower in noon deals on Tuesday, September 15, dragged down by losses in index heavyweights like ICICI Bank, State Bank of India, Bharat Electronics, Larsen & Toubro, Bajaj Finance and Titan. However, the losses were capped owing to buying in HDFC Bank, Infosys, Tata Consultancy Services, HCL Tech and Tech Mahindra.

As of 12:15 pm, the SENSEX was down 123 points at 74,659 and NIFTY50 index dropped 61 points to 23,337.

Here are shares surging amid spike in trading activity:
BrainBees Solutions: Shares of the parent of e-commerce retailer FirstCry advanced as much as 12.45% to an intraday high of ₹189.60 amid spike in trading activity.

Trading volume in the stock jumped by 52.2 times to 3.48 crore shares compared with an average volume of 6.68 lakh shares on the National Stock Exchange (NSE).

As many as 14.94 lakh shares changed hands on the BSE compared with an average of 3.44 lakh shares traded daily in the past two weeks.

Firstsource Solutions: Shares of the BPO and KPO operator gained as much as 17.95% to an intraday high of ₹292.15 as trading volumes jumped.

Trading volume on the NSE advanced by 43.4 times to 2.05 crore shares compared with an average volume of 4.73 lakh shares.

As many as 9.5 lakh shares changed hands on the BSE compared with an average of 53,000 shares traded daily in the past two weeks.

Zensar Technologies: Shares of the software services company advanced as much as 12.85% to an intraday high of ₹480, mirroring gains in other IT shares after the head of AI company Anthropic has called for the pace of development of artificial intelligence (AI) models to slow down and to be closely monitored.

Dario Amodei wrote in an online essay that developing AI was not in question, but that the risks associated with it were "serious" and that companies and governments must be given time to address them.

The bosses of two rival AI firms, Sam Altman of OpenAI and Elon Musk, have both said they agree with Amodei.

Trading volume in Zensar Tech shares spiked by 39 times to 2.84 crore shares compared with an average volume of 7.27 lakh shares on the NSE.

Afcons Infrastructure: Shares of the construction company advanced 20% to an intraday high of ₹305 amid spike in trading activity.

Trading volume jumped by 12 times to 1.95 crore shares as against an average volume of 15.79 lakh shares on the NSE.

A total of 17.25 lakh shares were traded on the BSE compared with its two-week average of 1.1 lakh shares.

Tata Investment Corporation: Shares of the Tata Group company surged a whopping 15.25% to an intraday high of ₹750, mirroring gains in other Tata Group owned companies on expectations of value unlocking after the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) rejected Tata Sons' application to ‌de-register as a non-banking finance company (NBFC), reviving prospects of a stock market listing for the holding firm.

Trading volume in the stock jumped 8.2 times to 1.49 crore shares as against its average volume of 18.17 lakh shares on the NSE.

A total of 14.62 lakh shares were traded on BSE compared with an average of 57,000 shares traded daily in the past two weeks.
